SMITH’S SINGLE LEADS SALTDOGS TO WALK-OFF WIN

Lincoln 7, Amarillo 6 – Box

Lincoln 3B Curt Smith singled home LF Mitch Canham with the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Saltdogs grabbed a 7-6 walkoff win over the Amarillo Thunderheads. Lincoln scored two runs in the third and three in the fifth to take a 5-0 advantage. Amarillo would storm back to tie the game at 5-5 with a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh. The Saltdogs collected a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead only to see the Thunderheads tally a run in the ninth to tie the contest at 6-6. Lincoln would then win the game in the bottom of ninth on Smith’s single. Saltdogs 2B Aaron Payne went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI while DH CJ Ziegler had two hits in four at-bats with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Saltdogs reliever Marshall Schuler tossed an inning of work and nabbed the win.

Wichita 4, Ottawa 2 – Box

The Wichita Wingnuts scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning and beat the Ottawa Champions by a 4-2 final. Wichita SS Leo Vargas led their offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Wingnuts 2B Jerry Gonzalez scored a run and drove in one while RF David Espinosa and 3B TJ Mittelstaedt each had a pair of walks. Wichita starting pitcher Eddie Medina picked up the victory. Medina went 5 2/3 innings giving up an unearned run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

St. Paul 3, Fargo-Moorhead 0 – Box

A sensational outing by starter Kramer Sneed leads the St. Paul Saints to a 3-0 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Sneed went eight innings allowing only two walks and four hits while striking out three batters. With the victory, Sneed improved his mark to 10-2 on the season. The Saints were led offensively by LF Willie Argo who went 2-for-4 on the night with a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored. Saints C Vinny DiFazio added a hit in three at-bats along with two walks, a run scored and a RBI.

Winnipeg 7, Kansas City 1 – Box

Winnipeg continues to play terrific baseball as they win their seventh in a row in a 7-1 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones. The Goldeyes banged out 14 hits in the contest with four players having multi-hit games. Winnipeg CF Reggie Abercrombie and C Luis Alen each had three hits on the night with Abercrombie scoring a pair of runs and Alen driving in three. Goldeyes starting pitcher Coby Cowgill evened his record at 3-3 with the win. Cowgill went 6 1/3 innings giving up an earned run on six hits and fanning a batter. For Kansas City in defeat, SS Brent Peterson had three hits.

Gary SouthShore 10, Joplin 1 – Box

It was all Gary SouthShore in this one as they rolled out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and went to a 10-1 win over the Joplin Blasters. RailCats CF Jon Jones had a monster game offensively going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. Gary SouthShore DH Jose Sermo banged out three hits in the contest and 1B J.D. Pulfer added a home run in a 2-for-5 night. RailCats starting pitcher Charle Rosario threw seven shutout innings in earning his 10th win of the year. Rosario gave up a walk and seven hits and struck out seven Joplin hitters.

Sioux City 9, Grand Prairie 4 – Box

Sioux City scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and went on to beat Grand Prairie by the score of 9-4. Explorers DH Brock Kjeldgaard and SS Noah Perio each collected three hits on the night and scored a run. Sioux City CF Matty Johnson added two hits in five at-bats with two runs scored and three RBI while 1B Rene Tosoni launched a home run. Explorers reliever Rob Wort tossed 2/3 of an inning and notched the victory. Wort is now 5-3 on the season.
