Sioux Falls 9, Lincoln 2 – Box
The Canaries struck quickly and never looked back. In the first two innings they put up six runs, thanks in part to the long ball. 1B David Bergin led the charge going 1-2 with two walks, two runs, two RBI and a home run. Bergin brought home SS Jerome Pena in the bottom of the first inning with his home run. He was quickly followed by two more. C Richard Stock and DH Brian Humphries went back to back to make three home runs in a row for the Canaries. Starter Joe Bircher only allowed one earned run to give the Canaries the victory.
RF Brain Joynt brought power to the ballpark tonight, hitting two doubles for the Saltdogs only extra base hits in the game. Joynt went 3-4 with two RBI. C Ryan Wiggins also went 2-4.
Grand Prairie 4, Kansas City 3 - Game 1 (7 Innings) – Box
In the first game of a doubleheader, Grand Prairie was able to squeak out a victory thanks to two, one run innings in the 5th and 6th to come back and then take the lead. 2B Jamondrick McGruder scored in the 5th to tie the game. He went 2-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. LF Ronnie Richardson also had a good day at the plate going 1-3 with two RBI. Starter Stetson Nelson pitched five solid innings to earn the victory and closer Zachary Dando picked up the save.
3B Nate Tenbrink led the charge for Kansas City. He went 3-3 with a run scored and a stolen base to give the offense a spark. C Brian Erie also swung a good bat, going 2-3 with a run scored.
Wichita 5, Laredo 1 – Game 1 (7 Innings) – Box
Wichita put up two runs in the 4th and three runs in the fifth to give them all the runs they would need to take the win. Leadoff hitter RF David Espinosa got everything going tonight. He went 2-3 with a run and two RBI. SS Luis Hernandez also went 2-3 with a run scored. The Wingnuts leaned on starter Tim Brown, who pitched five strong innings not allowing an earned run and striking out three.
The Lemurs were also led by their leadoff hitter. CF Devontray Richardson reached base three times in the game. He went 3-4 with a double and a stolen base. The stolen base was his 10th of the season.
Gary Southshore 1, Sioux City 0 – Box
Pitching dominated this game as both starters went eight innings for their ballclubs. The lone run was scored in the second inning by RF Drew Martinez. Martinez reached on a HBP and scored from first two batters later when DH Alex Crosby double to bring home what would be the deciding run. Crosby went 1-3 with an RBI.
Starting pitcher for Gary Southshore Charle Rosario was borderline unhittable, going eight and only allowing four hits. Rosario struck out four and didn’t let a run cross the plate. Andy Loomis pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game and get the save. Explorers starter Jeff Marquez also went eight innings and struck out five, only allowing one run.
Winnipeg 11, Fargo-Morehead 0 – Box
The Goldeneyes exploded for 17 hits and 11 runs. Six different players for the Goldeneyes had multiple hits. 3B Casey Haerther was a monster at the plate, going 4-5 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. Haerther had two extra base hits. 2B Brady Boyer also hit for power going 2-5 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI. CF Adam Heisler had two hits, a double and a triple, to go with two runs scored and an RBI. Starting pitcher Nick Hernandez was a workhorse, getting through seven innings and only throwing 96 pitches. Hernandez had four strikeouts and didn’t allow a single run.
LF Chad Mozingo led the RedHawks going 2-5. Mozingo had double in the game. RF Joe Dunigan went 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Wichita 6, Laredo 1– Game 2 (7 Innings) – Box
The Wingnuts took both games of the doubleheader today thanks to 3B TJ Mittelstaedt, who went 2-4 with a run scored and four RBI. The third baseman brought home three runs on one swing of the bat when he hit a bases clearing triple. 2B Taylor Oldham scored multiple runs as he went 2-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Oldham also stole his first base of the season. Starter Jon Link turned in a masterful five innings only allowing one baserunner and striking out three. It was Link’s first appearance of the season for Wichita.
Jeudy Valdez went 2-3 with an RBI and a double for the Lemurs. RF Dennis Phipps scored the only run of the game after the Valdez single brought him home in the seventh.
Kansas City 4, Grand Prairie 0 – Game 2 (7 innings) – Box
After a close loss earlier in the day, Kansas City made sure to get the win in the second game of the doubleheader. Leadoff hitter 2B Ryan Cavan set the tone for T-Bones, going 2-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. The home run was Cavan’s third of the season. DH Kyle Robinson went 1-2 with two RBI and a walk. The pitching duo of starter Kris Regas and reliever Frenando Hernandez was unhittable tonight. Over 7 innings the two only allowed three hits and had six strikeouts. Regas got the win and Hernandez got the save.
2B Jamondrick McGruder continued the hot bat he had from the first game. He went 1-3 with a double. 3B Ridge Hoopii-Haslam went 1-2.
Ottawa 2, St. Paul 1 – Box
Ottawa snuck the victory in this interleague pitcher’s duel. LF Mike Schwartz scored the winning run in the fifth inning after walking to get on base. Schwartz was able to advance to third with two outs because of a wild pitch. DH Alex Nunez was able to drive home the winning run because of a single. The RBI was Nunez’s 8th of the season. The Champions were powered by their starter Drew Cisco, who went five innings and only allowed one run. The bullpen took it from there. With the game on the line in the last two innings, the Champions’ relievers struck out five batters, including two by closer Alan DeRatt, who was credited with the save.
The lone run for the Saints was scored by CF Willie Argo, who went 2-3 with a run scored. Starter Drew Gay gave up two runs and struck out four in six innings.
Joplin vs Amarillo – Postponed
The game between Joplin and Amarillo has been postponed. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting tomorrow at 6:05.
