He allowed 24 runs (19 earned) on 53 hits while striking out an impressive 67 batters to help the Explorers to the South Division title.

McKinney was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals out of William R. Boone High School in Orlando, Fla. He reached the Double-A level with St. Louis in each of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons. In his six-year career, McKinney is 31-22 with a 3.22 ERA and five save. He has pitched 461.0 innings and allowed 443 hits and recorded 409 strikeouts.

McKinney is the third member of the 2018 Explorers pitching staff to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization, following RHP Tyler Fallwell (Philadelphia Phillies) and RHP Parker Markel (Seattle Mariners).
