SIOUX CITY EDGES AMARILLO IN EXTRA INNINGS

Sioux City 5, Amarillo 4 (10 Innings)Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers grabbed their fourth win in a row as they edged past the Amarillo Thunderheads in extra innings with a 5-4 win.

Noah Perio, who was 2-for-3 on the night, scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the top of the tenth inning. Three other Explorers – Rene Tosoni, Ryan Court and Tommy Mendonca – also had two hits in the game. Tosoni as well as C Matt Koch and Tim Colwell each had RBI for the Explorers. For the Thunderheads, leadoff man Logan Vick had a team-high two hits and Juan Martinez had two RBI.

Reliever Jose Flores picked up the win for working the bottom of the tenth without giving up a hit.

 

Laredo 6, Wichita 1Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs held the Wichita Wingnuts to just one run behind an eight-inning performance from starting pitcher Omar Bencomo and earned a 6-1 win.

Bencomo registered the win as he scattered seven hits in eight innings on the mound and gave up just one earned run. He walked one and struck out four batters. Offensively for the Lemurs, both 2B Abel Nieves and RF Kevin Taylor had three hits to lead the team. SS Jimmy Mojica went 2-for-4 with an RBI and 1B Tony Delmonico had a team-high two RBI.

For the Wingnuts, DH Matt Padgett and 1B Dustin Geiger each had two hits.

 

Winnipeg 5, Lincoln 3Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored a single run in five consecutive innings to drop the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-3.

The first six batters in Winnipeg’s order combined for the team’s 10 hits and 2B Brad Boyer, LF Nic Jackson and DH Jon Weber each had multi-hit games. Weber had a team-high three hits and had an RBI. 1B Casey Haerther, CF Adam Heisler and RF Brady Wilson also added RBI.

For the Saltdogs, C Mitch Canham went 3-for-5 with a run scored and LF Matt Forgatch was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

 

St. Paul 5, Joplin 4 Box Score

The St. Paul Saints took an early lead and held off the Joplin Blasters’ comeback on their way to a 5-4 win.

LF Willie Argo singled home the first run of the game in the top of first inning and he scored in the next at bat on a double from DH Ian Gac. Gac scored on a single from 1B Angelo Songco later in the inning to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. The Blasters chipped into that lead with a run in the sixth, two in the eight and one more in the ninth but Saints’ Reliever Ryan Rodebaugh cut the surge one run short as he earned a five-out save.

Rodebaugh allowed just one run on three hits and struck out three batters. Starting pitcher Robert Coe was credited with the win as he went 5.2 innings and allowed just one unearned run on two hits.

 

Kansas City 10, Fargo-Moorhead 3 Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones responded to a three-run first inning from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with a seven-run third and went on to claim a 10-3 win.

CF Drew Muren gave the RedHawks the early lead with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning but those would be the only runs for Fargo-Moorhead on the night. For the T-Bones, 3B Jake Blackwood and RF Adam Bailey each had four hits. LF Nate Tenbrink went 3-for-5 with three RBI and both CF Robby Kuzdale and C Brian Erie each added a pair of RBI.

Starting pitcher Robert Duran picked up the win for his five innings of work. He allowed three runs on five hits and had three strikeouts.  Relievers Josh Tols and Aaron Baker worked the last four innings without giving up a hit to preserve the win.

 

Sioux Falls 8, Grand Prairie 2 Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries took care of the Grand Prairie AirHogs 8-2 as they had two big innings with three runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth.

Grand Praire struck first in the top of the third inning when 2B Jamodrick McGruder tripled to score CF Josh Eatherly. Sioux Falls took the lead in the fourth inning as C Richard Stock hit a two-run home run and LF Brian Humphries belted a solo shot later in the inning. The AirHogs scratched out a run in the fifth on a single from Eatherly that scored SS Robi Estrada but the Canaries put the game away with a five-run rally in the sixth inning.

Humphries and SS Jerome Pena led the way offensively with three hits apiece. Pena had two RBI to match Stock. For the AirHogs, 1B Victor Diaz had a team-high two hits.

 

Gary SouthShore at Sussex County (Postponed – weather)

Today’s interleague game between the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Sussex County Miners has been postponed due to weather. The game will be made up as a part of a double header scheduled to start Tuesday at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
