Kane County 5, Gary SouthShore 4 – Box Score

An RBI single from CF Anfernee Seymour in the top of the ninth inning made the difference as the Kane County Cougars (5-2) edged the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-4 on Monday night.

The RailCats (3-4) opened the scoring in the first inning when 1B Ben Andrews hit the first of his two home runs of the game. 2B Vaibhav Desai followed suit in the second, giving the RailCats a 2-0 lead. But a pair of extra-base hits in the sixth changed the momentum of the game as Kane County 1B Nick Zammarelli doubled home C B.J. Lopez and SS Galli Cribbs Jr., and then he scored alongside 2B Josh Allen when DH Jeffrey Baez tripled two pitches later.

Andrews’ second homer was a two-run shot in the eighth that tied the score at 4-4 heading into the final frame. In the ninth, LF Mark Karaviotis drew a lead-off walk and scored the eventual game winner on Seymour’s single.

Reliever Mark Seyler retired the side in order in the home half of the inning seal the win and earn his first save of the year.
