MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers’ SS Nate Samson (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 1.
During the past week week, Samson batted .481 with two home runs and seven RBIs while scoring a league-high 12 runs. The former Cubs’ farmhand collected a hit in all six games during the week, raising his already impressive average from .309 to .335.
Samson began his professional career in 2006 after being drafted in the 34th round by the Chicago Cubs. The Ocala, Florida native spent eight seasons in the Cubs organization before playing half a year with the Winnipeg Goldeyes in 2013. Samson split time between Sioux City and the Arizona Diamondbacks Double-A club in 2014 before having his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 2015, Samson has spent parts of all three season since 2016 with the Sioux City Explorers. While in organizational ball, he reached Triple-A in three different seasons.
