Lincoln 13, Winnipeg 0 (Game 2 – Series tied, 1-1) – Box
It was all Lincoln in this game as the Saltdogs rolled out to a 12-0 lead after three innings of play and would go on from there to a 13-0 victory over Winnipeg. Lincoln pounded out 17 hits in the contest with five batters having multi-hit games. Saltdogs LF Brandon Jacobs had a tremendous night at the dish going 3-for-5 with a second inning grand slam, two runs scored and seven RBI. Lincoln DH Curt Smith went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI while 2B Cesar Valera added three hits in five at-bats and scored three times.
Saltdogs starter Derek Gordon tossed seven shutout innings to earn his first win of the postseason. Gordon gave up a walk and four hits to go along with eight strikeouts.
The series is now tied up at 1-1 and will head to Winnipeg for game three on Saturday night.
Wichita 5, Gary SouthShore 2 (Game 2 – Wichita leads series, 2-0) – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead and would cruise from there to a 5-2 win over Gary SouthShore in game two of the best-of-five American Association semifinals. Wichita had seven batters in their lineup collect a hit including 2B Christian Stringer who scored a run and drove in two in a 1-for-5 night. Wingnuts DH Matt Chavez and LF Brennen Salgado each went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored while RF Richard Prigatano and 1B Brent Clevlen both drove in a run.
Wichita starting pitcher Alex Boshers allowed two earned runs over five innings pitched to notch the victory. Boshers gave up a pair of walks and six hits to go along with seven strikeouts in a 94-pitch game. The Wingnuts received a strong effort from their bullpen as they fanned five batters over the final four innings to preserve the victory.
For Gary SouthShore in the losing effort, 1B Alex Crosby went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.
Wichita now leads the series 2-0 and will look to close it out in game three on Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
