Lincoln 8, Grand Prairie 7 — Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs climbed their way out of a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to claim an 8-7 walkoff win against the Grand Prairie AirHogs. The win makes four in a row for the Saltdogs.
The Saltdogs tied the score in the bottom of the ninth when C Ryan Wiggins singled to score both 1B Jeremy Hamilton, who hit a leadoff single, and RF Brian Joynt, who reached on a walk. Wiggins scored the game-winning run in the next at bat as 2B Aaron Payne sent a single into right field. Payne was one of six batters to have a multi-hit game. SS Mike Gilmartin went 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead the Saltdogs.
For the AirHogs, 1B Victor Diaz, RF Jordy Hart and CF Chris Elder each went 2-for-4.
Winnipeg 4, St. Paul 3 — Box Score
With a sacrifice fly by 2B Brad Boyer in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Winnipeg Goldeyes walked off on the St. Paul Saints 4-3.
The Saints were leading 3-2 heading into the ninth inning but the Goldeyes quickly changed that. 3B Josh Mazzola, who was 2-for-4 on the night, opened things up in the bottom of the second with a leadoff double and he moved to third on a single by RF Jon Weber. Mazzola scored to tie the game on wild pitch and Weber, who also had two hits for the Goldeyes, ended up scoring the game-ending run when Boyer lifted a ball to the right fielder.
For the Saints, LF Steve Nikorak went 2-for-4 with a run scored and both DH Ian Gac and RF Mike Kvasnicka added an RBI. The game was delayed by an hour and forty-four minutes because of rain.
Wichita 2, Kansas City 1 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and made them stand up as they toppled the Kansas City T-Bones 2-1.
In the bottom of the first inning, RF David Espinosa led things off with a single and then scored on a double by 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt. Mittlestaedt scored when 1B Matt Padgett grounded out to the first baseman. Mittlestaedt had the Wingnuts only other hit of the game with a single in the sixth. For the T-Bones, 2B Ryan Cavan scored when LF Adam Bailey singled in the top of the sixth.
Wichita’s starting pitcher Jon Link earned the win as he went 5.2 innings and allowed one run on seven hits while striking out five. Reliever Dakota Watts picked up the save for working the ninth without allowing a hit. T-Bones starter Casey Barnes was solid despite the loss as he went six innings and allowed the two runs on three hits while striking out four batters.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Ottawa 2 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tallied 12 hits from eight different batters as they beat the Ottawa Champions 4-2 in an interleague contest.
The Champions struck first as LF Mike Schwartz, who was 2-for-4 with both of the Champions RBI, doubled home CF Sebastien Boucher in the first inning. The RedHawks tied the score in the second as DH Connor Andrus singled to score 1B Tyler Peterson but Schwartz moved his team back in front with an RBI triple in the third. In the fourth, 3B Frazier Hall leveled the score at two when he scored on a single from SS Zach Penprase.
The RedHawks scored the decisive runs in the fifth as C Joe Staley hit a RBI single and Peterson hit a sacrifice fly that scored RF Joe Dunigan.
Gary SouthShore 4, Sioux Falls 1 — Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats took an early lead and held on to take care of the Sioux Falls Canaries 4-1.
In the second inning, 1B Michael Schroeder open the frame with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch for the first run of the game. The RailCats went ahead 2-0 when SS Ryan Brockett singled to score RF Drew Martinez later in the inning. Gary SouthShore added a run in the sixth when C Jaime Del Valle scored on an error and another in the eighth when Martinez singled home CF Jon Jones. The Canaries scored their only run in the ninth when C Richard Stock hit a sac fly that plated 1B David Bergin.
On the mound, starting pitcher Charle Rosario was credited with the win as he went 7.2 innings and allowed no runs on just four hits. He also struck out four batters in the game.
Joplin 10, Sioux City 1 — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters backed up starting pitcher Nestor Molina with ten runs – seven in the eighth inning – to drop the Sioux City Explorers 10-1.
Molina went eight strong innings on the bump as he allowed just one run on six hits. Molina struck out three batters and issued no walks. Offensively, eight of the nine Blasters in the order had hits in the game and four of them had multi-hit games. 1B Yasser Gomez went 2-for-5 with a team-high three RBI and RF Jesus Solorzano added two RBI as he went 2-for-3. Both 3B Omar Luna and CF Oscar Mesa each also had two hits.
In critical eighth, 11 Blasters went to the plate and seven of them scored as five of them had hits and three of them drew walks. For the Explorers, six different batters each had one hit including 1B Ino Patron who had the team’s lone RBI.
Laredo 5, Amarillo 2 — Box Score
The Laredo Lemurs picked up a 5-2 win in the second game of their four-game set with the Amarillo Thunderheads to level the series.
Laredo was led by C Brian Peterson who went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Peterson picked up his 1000th career hit in the game. Peterson also had a solo home run in the fifth and teammate RF Dvontrey Richardson, who went 2-for-4, followed suit one batter later. 1B Kevin Taylor also had two hits in the game as he went 2-for-4. For the Thunderheads, DH Stefan Gartrell went 3-for-3 with the team’s only RBI.
On the mound, starter Henry Garcia earned the win for tossing five innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three batters. Reliever John Brebbia picked up the save as he worked a scoreless ninth.
