SAINTS WALK OFF ON SOX IN 12

St. Paul 4, Amarillo 3 (Final/12 Innings) — Box Score

St Paul Saints C Dwight Childs had just one at bat in the game but he made it count as he singled to left field in the bottom of the 12th inning to walk off on the Amarillo Sox.

Childs single scored RF Evan Bigley who singled to start the bottom of the 12th. Bigley and 2B Jared McDonald had a team-high two hits on the night. The Saints were trailing heading into the ninth inning by a score of 3-2 but LF Keith Brachold hit a solo home run to tie up the score and force extra innings.

Reliever Ben Hughes picked up the win as he worked the top of the 12th inning. Starting pitcher Nick Barnese had a strong outing without a decision as he went 7.2 innings and allowed just three runs on seven hits.

For the Sox, both 1B Kevin Mahoney and C Jeff Farnham went 2-for-5 and Farnham added an RB.

 

Lincoln 10, Laredo 9Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs walked off on the Laredo Lemurs to claim a 10-9 win on Wednesday night in Lincoln.

The Saltdogs were trailing 9-8 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning but got off to a fortuitous start as 3B Kevin Howard doubled and then reached third on an error. That was Howard’s third hit of the night. He scored to tie up the score on a single from 2B Omar Luna who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the game. Luna scored the game-winning run when C Chris Anderson reached on a fielder’s choice three batters later.

Anderson homered earlier in the contest and finished the night with a team-high three RBI. 1B Ian Gac had a team-high three runs scored to go along with his 3-for-4 performance at the plate. For the Lemurs, RF Denis Phipps went 2-for-5 with four RBI. Both CF Nick Van Stratten and LF J.P. Ramirez added two hits piece.

 

Wichita 1, Sioux Falls 0 Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts’ pitching staff combined to shutout the Sioux Falls Canaries and held them to just three hits as the Wingnuts picked up a 1-0 win.

Starter Jason Van Skike set the pace as he went seven strong innings and allowed just two hits and struck out four batters. Reliever Alex Hinshaw came in to work the eighth without allowing a hit and then reliever Matt Nevarez followed in the ninth. Nevarez allowed one hit and struck out two batters to earn the save. Skike improved to 6-2 on the year with the win.

The winning run came in the seventh inning. CF Brent Clevlen opened up the inning with a walk and then he scored later when 1B Trevor Whyte singled. SS Ryan Khoury and 3B Chris McClendon both went 2-for-4 to lead the team.

 

Grand Prairie 6, Kansas City 1Box Score

Grand Prairie starting pitcher Ryan Searle recorded 26 of the 27 outs Wednesday as the AirHogs took care of the Kansas City T-Bones 6-1.

Searle went 8.2 innings and gave up just one run on eight hits while striking out seven batters. His teammates provided more than enough run support with two different three-run innings. The first of which came in the third inning, behind RBI from CF Eric Baker, SS Jimmy Mojica and RF Abel Nieves. The AirHogs struck again in the sixth as C Vince DiFazio doubled in a run and LF Madison Carter doubled in two.

Carter and Nieves along with DH Brian Morrow each had two-hit games. For the T-Bones, SS Vladamir Frias and 3B Jeff Lusardi went 2-for-4 to lead the team.

 

Gary SouthShore 6, Fargo-Moorhead 3Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats jumped out to an early lead and held on to defeat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-3.

The RailCats put up three runs in the top of the first inning on a double from 1B Wally Backman. The RailCats other three runs came on a home run from 3B Daniel Pulfer in the fourth inning. Pulfer also had a double in the game to go 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.  The RedHawks responded in the bottom of the fourth as 2B C.J. Retherford knocked in his 36th and 37th RBI of the season. The RedHawks scored another run in the eighth but couldn’t close the margin any more than that.

At the plate for the RedHawks, RF Dusty Robinson went 3-for-4 and DH Travis Higgins went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

 

Sioux City 9, Winnipeg 2Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9-2 behind an impressive offensive performance from DH Andres Perez.

Perez singled in the top of the first inning for his first of four hits in the game. In the third, he doubled in LF Oscar Mesa to put the Explorers ahead 1-0. He singled again in the fourth inning, this time CF Tim Colwell scored on the play.  In the sixth inning, Perez hit his second home run of the season to score RF Rene Tosoni. Mesa and Tosoni each had two-hit games of their own and Colwell had a two-RBI night.

Sioux City C Todd Jennings also had a strong night as he went 3-for-4. For the Goldeyes, RF Donnie Webb had a team-high two hits in four at bats.
