SAINTS TOP EXPLORERS IN 14 INNINGS ON CARTER BLAST

St. Paul 5, Sioux City 4 (14 Innings) – Box

St. Paul CF Kes Carter launched a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the 14th inning to give the Saints a dramatic 5-4 walk-off win over the Sioux City Explorers. This contest had been tied since the eighth when Sioux City DH LeVon Washington led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the score at 4-4. Carter went 3-for-7 on the night with two runs scored and a RBI while 1B Brady Shoemaker had a 2-for-4 game with a home run, his 16th of the season, two runs scored and two RBI. St. Paul pitcher Kenneth Frosch tossed 2 2/3 solid innings of relief to earn his fourth win of the season. Forsch gave up only two walks while fanning five batters.

Cleburne 5, Wichita 4 – Box

Cleburne SS Alex Polston scored the game winning run on an error by Wichita 1B Matt Chavez in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Railroaders defeated the Wingnuts in a walk-off, 5-4. Polston had a 3-for-4 game with a double and a triple while 1B Geraldo Valentin had a three-hit night and drove in three runs. Cleburne reliever Casey Upperman tossed a scoreless ninth inning to notch his first win of the season. Upperman gave up a walk and struck one in the four batters faced. For Wichita in the losing effort, 2B Christian Stringer went 1-for-4, including a two-run single in the sixth inning to tie the contest at 4-4.

Gary SouthShore 2, Salina 1 – Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats started off on a high note after the all-star break as they edged past the Salina Stockade by a 2-1 score. Gary SouthShore would score single runs in the second and fifth innings to grab a 2-0 lead and would make it hold up after a solid pitching performance from starter Aryton Costa and the bullpen duo of Jesse Pratt and Carlos Diaz. Costa went the first six innings allowing a walk and three hits while striking out one in a 67-pitch performance. Pratt and Diaz finished off the final three innings by giving up only an earned run on two hits to along with three strikeouts. Costa notched his first victory of the season and Diaz collected his fourth save. Offensively for the RailCats, leadoff hitter Alex Crosby went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Texas at Kansas City (Postponed – Rain)

The game between Texas and Kansas City was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, July 27 beginning at 5:05 PM.
