St. Paul 3, Kansas City 2 (11 Innings) – Box
The Saint Paul Saints rallied in a big way against the Kansas City T-Bones Friday night, pushing across a tying run in the ninth (via a Henry Wrigley home run) to force extra innings, and then walking off in the bottom of the 11th after CF Angelo Songco drove in PR Jared McDonald. Wrigley and Songco combined to go 5-9 with two runs and two RBIs to help lead the Saints to an unlikely victory. Wrigley’s game-tying home run in the ninth inning was the first baseman’s 12th of the season.
Laredo 4, Quebec 3 – Box
The Laredo Lemurs took down the Quebec Capitales 4-3 despite both teams tallying 11 hits throughout the game. 1B John Alonso had a perfect night at the plate out of the six-hole, going 4-4 with his second home run of the season to provide some juice in the middle of the order. 2B Travis Denker homered twice in the game, going 2-4 with his fourth and fifth longballs of the season. Jeremy Strawn threw a solid game for the Lemurs, going seven innings and allowing just two runs on eight Quebec hits. He struck out five and walked none on just 30 pitches.
Lincoln 5, New Jersey 4 – Box
The Lincoln Saltdogs edged out the New Jersey Jackals 5-4 thanks to a two-RBI double by LF Jeremy Hamilton in the sixth inning. In addition to his go-ahead RBI hit, Jamilton paced the Saltdogs with a 2-4 night out of the eight hole and scored a run of his own. Marquis Fleming got the nod on the mound for Lincoln, and tossed seven five-hit innings while striking out seven batters and walking two en route to the win.
Sioux Falls Canaries 4, Grand Prarie AirHogs 0 – Box
The Sioux Falls Canaries shut out the Grand Prairie AirHogs 4-0, thanks to fantastic pitching performances from Joe Bircher and John Brebbia. Bircher got the start for Sioux Falls, and he worked around four walks and six hits while striking out three AirHog batters. After Bircher finished the seventh, Brebbia came in to throw the eighth and ninth innings, where he allowed just two hits and struck out two batters.
Gary SouthShore RailCats, 3 Winnipeg Goldeyes 1 – Box
The Gary SouthShore RailCats were able to take down the Winnipeg Goldeyes 3-1 despite a brief threat from Winnipeg in the bottom of the ninth inning. Up two heading into the inning, relief pitcher Barry Fowler ran into some trouble when he allowed a solo home run to pull the Goldeys within one with two outs to work with. However, after the homer, Fowler settled down and retired the next two batters to lock in the win for the RailCats and pick up the save. DH Craig Maddox lead Gary offensively with two hits out of the five-hole, including his fourth home run of the season and his 15th double.
Fargo-Moorhead 5, Sioux City 0 – Box
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took down the Sioux City Explorers 5-0, behind solid performances on the mound from Curtis Camilli and Kevin Fuqua. Camilla started the game and went 7.2 shutout innings while striking out and walking six batters. He gave up just four hits before handing the ball off to Fuqua for the final 1.1 innings. Fuqua kept the shutout intact by allowing no Sioux City baserunners and striking out two batters in a perfect outing on the mound.
Wichita 10, Amarillo 4 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts offense exploded for 20 hits against Amarillo to take down the Sox 10-4. LF Carlo Testa was one of six Wichita batters with a multi-hit night, as he lead the Wingnuts with a 3-4 game that included four runs, two RBIs and a walk. He tallied his eighth triple of the season while CF Brent Clevlen doubled and homered for the seventh time in a 2-5 game out of the cleanup spot. Jon Link recorded the win for Wichita after throwing seven innings and allowing three runs. He struck out eight and walked two, while scattering nine hits.
