Durham, N.C. — The American Association announced on Wednesday that the contract of Kansas City T-Bones RHP Derek Gordon was purchased by the Kansas City Royals’ organization. Gordon’s brother, Alex, is the Royals’ everyday left fielder and has been named an American League all-star the last two seasons.
Derek made his professional debut with the T-Bones in 2014, going 1-1 with a 6.49 ERA in 14 appearances, four of them starts. In his second pro appearance on July 5, he pitched seven shutout innings against Sioux Falls, limiting the Canaries to four hits and earning his first win.
Previously, he was a four-year starter at Park (Mo.) University, where he posted a career record of 24-8 with a 3.35 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 212 innings pitched. Gordon has the most career wins and strikeouts in school history, setting both marks during his senior season.
