August 5 Box Scores
Wichita 4, Rockland 1
The Wichita Wingnuts bested the Rockland Boulders behind a strong effort from DH John Rodriguez. Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two RBI. He also scored a run in the top of the seventh inning after reaching on a walk and scoring from first on a double form 1B C.J. Ziegler.
That run gave the Wingnuts a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Three Wingnuts had two-hit games including Ziegler. For the Boulders, DH Angel Molina and SS Matt Nandin had two hits. Starter Anthony Capra picked up the win for his six innings of work in which he allowed just one run on three hits.
Grand Prairie 6, Amarillo 5 (Final – 11 innings)
After tying things up in the bottom of the ninth, the Grand Prairie AirHogs walked off on the Amarillo Sox in the 11th inning. The Sox took the 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth inning one a single by RF Chris Valencia. Valencia had a monster game going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
The AirHogs 3B Brandon Pickney, who was 2-for-6, responded in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run homerun that forced extra innings. In the 11th, LF Chad Mozingo moved from second to third on a wild pitch and then scored later in the same at bat on a second wild pitch.
For the AirHogs, DH Palmer Karr also added two RBI on a 2-for-5 night.
Gary SouthShore 10, Kansas City 2
The Gary SouthShore RailCats racked up 11 hits on their way to toppling the Kansas City T-Bones 10-2. Eight different RailCats had at least one hit and three of them had multi-hit games 1B Christina Vitters, CF Drew Martinez and 2B Nick Liles each had two hits and an RBI in the game.
Vitters had a double and a triple in the contest. DH Cristian Guerrero had a game-high three RBI two of which came on a homerun in the eighth inning. For the T-Bones, RF Luis Rivera went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Both he and 2B Jairo Perez had solo homeruns in the game.
RailCat Starter Alain Quijano was tabbed as the winner for going 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on six hits.
Laredo 6, El Paso 4
The Laredo Lemurs fought out of an early 4-0 hole to come back to beat the El Paso Diablos 6-4. SS Jimmy Mojica was 3-for-4 with an RBI and 1B John Alonso scored twice including a solo homerun. The Diablos claimed a 4-0 lead through the first inning and a half thanks to a two-run homerun by RF Welington Dotel but the Lemurs started mounting a comeback in the bottom of the second inning.
Laredo reeled off six unanswered runs in the last six and a half innings to claim victory. Reliever Jake Cowen earned the win for 3.1 innings of work and Mark Haynes sealed the win and earned the save.
