Sioux Falls Canaries outfielder Josh Rehwaldt and Chicago Dogs starter Jeff Lindgren won the American Association’s Rawlings batter and pitcher of the month in June, the league announced Tuesday.
Rehwaldt led the league in hitting in June, going 37-for-91 (.407) with five doubles, a league-high 10 home runs, 20 walks and a league-high 30 runs batted in. He also scored 27 runs and stole three bases.
He is certainly an early contender for player of the year, ranking in the top two in batting average (.383), home runs (14) and RBI (45) on the season, leading his Sioux Falls team to a resurgent June that saw them get just 2.5 back of first place in the West.
Rehwaldt is getting used to winning awards, with two player of the week awards already under his belt this season. This is his fourth season as a Canary and he’s on pace to top his 2024 all-star season in which he hit .290 with 23 home runs and 66 RBI.
On the pitching side, Lindgren led the Dogs to some key wins in June, going 4-0 on the month in five starts with a 2.15 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 29.1 total innings.
He was an innings eater, with two starts of seven innings and two others where he pitched at least into the sixth. His highlight start was at the beginning of the month when he went seven one-hit frames down south in Cleburne, quieting a strong offense with six strikeouts.
This is Lindgren’s first season of American Association ball after spending five seasons in the Miami Marlins organization, reaching the major leagues with Miami back in 2023.
Rawlings is the official baseball of the American Association.
