Sioux Falls Canaries slugger Josh Rehwaldt and Kane County Cougars starter Konnor Ash won the American Association’s Carbliss batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 6/22, the league announced Monday.
Rehwaldt led the league in hitting this week, going 13-for-25 (.520) including two doubles and four home runs. He drove in nine while also walking three times and scoring eight runs.
Rehwaldt was most impactful in the final two games over the weekend, driving in five runs with two homers to help the Canaries complete the sweep of Fargo-Moorhead.
The Minnesota native who played his college ball in Sioux Falls is in year three with the Canaries including last season and 2019. He’s topping his all-star season from a year ago, leading the league among qualified hitters with a .393 average and 1.242 OPS.
On the pitching side, the May pitcher of the month has already won his second award of the season thanks to another strong performance.
On Wednesday against Gary-SouthShore, Ash went seven innings against the RailCats allowing just one run on two hits and striking out 10 while allowing just one walk.
He’s now went seven innings in three of his last four outings and has not went less than five innings in any of his eight starts. He is the only pitcher in the league with an ERA below 2.00 at 1.60.
What an addition he’s been to Kane County, who picked him up after he spent the last four seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Carbliss is the founding partner of the American Association.
