Fargo-Moorhead 5, Wichita 4 – Box
After coming back from an early 3-0 deficit, the RedHawks walked off in dramatic fashion. With a man on first and third with two outs 2B Frank Salerno stepped to the plate. He drove home the winning run, SS Zach Penprase with a single. Salerno rewarded a valiant effort from relief pitcher Mike Mason, who took over in the fourth inning and proceeded to pitch shutout ball for the remaining 5.1 innings. Mason struck out 5 and was credited with the win. Penprase was the big bat for the RedHawks, going 3-4 with a double, 2 RBI and a stolen base.
Leadoff hitter CF Jayce Ray played well going 2-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. Alberto Gonzalez also had a strong performance for Wichita. The shortstop went 2-4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Starting pitcher Omar Bencomo gave Wichita 5 solid innings with 5 strikeouts.
Gary Southshore 3, Ottawa 1 – Box
In a game that was tied through 7 innings, Gary Southshore was able to break through in the top of the 8th inning to secure the lead and earn a win for relief pitcher Chuck Fontana. Adam Taylor scored the run which gave Gary Southshore the lead they wouldn’t surrender after a passed ball brought him to home plate. Michael Schroeder would tack on another run after a single brought him home. The bullpen was key for Gary Southshore, in particular Fontana and Andy Loomis, who earned the save. The two only surrendered one hit in 2.2 innings. Loomis pitched a 1-2-3 9th striking out two. Taylor had a strong day at the plate going 3-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
SP Dan Tobik had a solid outing for Ottawa only allowing four hits in and striking out 10 in 6 innings of work. He let just one run cross the plate. 3B Matt Tenaglia continued his scorching performance at the plate. His 2-4 performance today raised his average to .379 for the season.
Joplin 10, Amarillo 3 – Box
CF Oscar Mesa led the Blasters with an odd, but impressive statline. With only one credited at-bat Mesa had 5 RBI. He went 1-1 with a home run and 5 RBI. His other two at-bats were sacrifices and not counted in the statsheet. In Mesa’s first at-bat he hit a three run home run, bringing in IF Mitch Glasser and OF Jesus Solorzano. Glasser and Solorzano combined to go 5-9 with five runs scored and one RBI. SP Nestor Molina earned the win for Joplin. He pitched 6 innings allowing just one run and 4 strikeouts. His season ERA sits at 1.59. Joplin leadoff hitter SS Maikol Gonzalez was the catalyst for team going 2-4 with two runs scored.
Pinch hitter Jordan Guida came up big for the Thunderheads. In his only at-bat of the game he hit a two run home run. C Corey Bass also added two hits and a stolen base for Amarillo. OF Jason Martin went 2-3 with a run scored.
Winnipeg 5, Sioux Falls 3 Box
In this game the Goldeyes took an early lead and never surrendered it. Winnipeg had a strong team batting performance with 12 hits as a team. It was the bottom of the order that helped propel the team to victory. 8th man CF Adam Heisler and 9th man CLuis Alen combined to go 5-7 with two runs scored and an RBI. Heisler was a menace on the basepath snagging two stolen bases to bring his season total to 7. The duo also got help from 1B Casey Haerther, who reached base all five at-bats. The firstbaseman ended the game 2-2 with 3 walks, an RBI and a run. Starting pitcher Matthew Jackson earned the win after giving the Goldeneyes 6.1 innings. Jailen Peguero was credited with the save.
Sioux Falls had a balanced offensive attack with 8 different players getting a hit in the game. 3B RJ Perucki was the only player with multiple hits. He also had an RBI. C Richard Stock hit his 7th double of the season, also scoring a run.
St. Paul 7, Grand Prairie 3 – Box
St. Paul starting pitcher Kramer Sneed continued his hotstreak with another win. He struck out 8 and brought his season ERA to 1.90 after a six inning performance in which he only allowed one run. His batterymate Vince DiFazio also did his part. DiFazio went 1-3 with two runs, a home run and three RBI. Saints CF Alonzo Harris also showed some power from the leadoff spot, hitting a solo home run for one of his two hits. St. Paul did a great job putting the ball in play, only striking out three times the whole game. 1B Angelo Songco went 3-4 and scored two runs.
AirHogs leadoff hitter 2B Jamondrick McGruder provided a spark with two hits a run and an RBI. He flashed both speed and power, hitting a home run but also stealing a base. DH John Weber also provided some offense, scoring two runs on a hit and a walk.
Sioux City 9, Kansas City 8 – Box
The Sioux City relievers saved the day for the Explorers in this high scoring game. Winning pitcher Rob Wort ended the threat in the 7th inning, shut out the 8th and set the table for Jose Flores to pitch a perfect 9th and earn the save. Flores struck out two in his only inning of work. 3B Dillon Usiak and C Matt Koch both hit triples for the Explorers. Usiak would score two runs. 1B Rene Tosini also scored two runs and reached base four times. Tosini was also able to steal a base.
1B Nate Tenbrink came up big for the T-Bones. He hit a home run and stole a base. OF Kyle Robinson also showed off his power, going deep in the 6th inning and bringing in three runs with one swing of the bat. The T-Bones showed balance at the plate, with 7 different players scoring in the game.
Laredo 9, Lincoln 5 – Box
3B Juan Silverio powered the Lemurs to victory tonight. His solo home run in the fourth inning was just one of his four hits on the night. He drove in three runs and hit a double, going 4-5. C and LF Kevin Taylor also had knack for reaching base and touching home plate. Taylor reached on all five of his at bats. He walked twice and scored three runs. 1B Tony Delmonico drove in three runs for the Lemurs. In just .1 innings of work reliever Henry Garcia was credited with the win. John Brebbia earned the save.
The Saltdogs got some help from CF Jon Gaston hit his third home run of the season and drive in two runs. C Mitch Canham continued his blistering start to the season reaching base all four times he came to bat. His three hits tonight brought his season average up to .481.
