FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have sold the contract of CF Drew Muren to the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

Muren, 27, will report to Diamondback spring training this week. But it will not be as the fleet-footed centerfielder RedHawks fans enjoyed in 2015. Muren is attempting to join the Diamondbacks organization has a pitcher. He appeared in one game for the RedHawks last season on the mound and was both a pitcher and position player his first season of college baseball in 2008 before becoming a full-time position player. He was signed by Arizona after attending a tryout camp last week.

Muren batted .286 with 20 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 45 RBIs and 62 runs scored in 92 games for Fargo-Moorhead last summer. He stole 19 bases in 20 attempts and led all American Association outfielders with 256 putouts in 2015.

“Drew has been working on his pitching the last two off-seasons and we knew this was something he was pursuing,” said RedHawks manager Doug Simunic. “He has a big arm that tops out in the mid-90s and this could be a change for him to advance his baseball career. We’ll miss him in center field but hope it works out for him.”
