Fargo-Moorhead 6, Winnipeg 5 – Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (29-15) held off a ninth-inning push to snag a 6-5 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The RedHawks took the lead when LF Devan Ahart (2-for-5) singled home SS Yhoxian Medina in the third and doubled that lead in the next inning as CF Brennan Metzger singled home 3B Leobaldo Pina (2-for-4). In the fifth, 1B Correlle Prime had an RBI double and then scored when Pina homered two batters later. In the bottom of the inning, 3B Jordan Hovey (2-for-4) tripled home a pair of runs and then scored when 2B Alex Perez bounced out.
The Goldeyes added runs in the sixth and seventh to pull within one run and they put the tying and winning runs on base in the ninth before a strikeout and a fly out to center field ended the threat.
Starting pitcher Ryan Williams earned the win for working 5.2 innings and allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits while striking out three batters. Reliever Joe Filomeno earned the six out save while striking out four batters.
Gary SouthShore 7, Texas 6 – Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats (19-22) slid past the Texas AirHogs 7-6 in a game that saw all the action go down in the final three frames.
The game was scoreless until the top of the seventh inning the RailCats blew things wide open. C Wilfredo Giminez (3-for-4) had an RBI double, LF Sean Guida had a two-RBI triple and 1B Alex Crosby (2-for-5) plated Guida with a single to take a 4-0 lead. But in bottom of the inning, 1B Cao Jie hit an RBI single and later scored alongside SS Josh Prince (2-for-4) and LF Javion Randle when 2B Li Ning (2-for-5) tripled. Ning also scored when DH Jonathan Moroney (3-for-5) singled in the next at-bat, giving the AirHogs the lead.
In the top of the eighth, DH Raymond Jones (3-for-3) singled home RF Colin Willis to tie things up and then 2B Thomas Walraven singled home SS Andy DeJesus (2-for-4) for the go ahead run. Willis scored what turned out to be a pivotal run in the top of the ninth on a single from Gimenez as Randle drew a bases-loaded walk for the AirHogs in the bottom half to pull within one. A strikeout in the next at-bat ended the ninth-inning surge and sealed the win for the RailCats.
Sioux Falls 6, Kansas City 3 – Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries (21-21) posted five runs in the top of the first inning and rolled to a 6-3 win against the Kansas City T-Bones (21-21).
In the first, Rf Mike Hart singled home the first run with a shot to right field that plated 3B Jordan Ebert. IN the next at bat, LF Clint Coulter (2-for-4) hit a grand slam to take a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, OF Danny Mars (2-for-4) scored when 2B/LF Dylan Tice (2-for-3) lifted a sac fly. The T-Bones added two more in the third when 1B Daniel Nava singled home Mars and then scored himself when DH Christopher Colabello (2-for-3) singled.
In the top of the seventh, CF Brett Vertigan scored on a sac fly from 1B Kevin Taylor (3-for-3).
Cleburne 7, Chicago 4 – Box Score
The Cleburne Railroaders (23-20) saw hits from everyone in the lineup as they topped the Chicago Dogs 7-4.
Of the nine Railroaders that had hits in the game three of them had a pair of hits including 3B Chase Simpson, who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and his 11th home run of the season. C John Nester and DH Hunter Clanin also had a pair of hits. Nester and RF K.C. Huth also homered.
For the Dogs, CF David Olmedo-Barrera went 4-for-5 with an RBI and DH Trey Vavra had a pair of hits.
Starting pitcher Jesus Sanchez picked up the win after throwing 6.1 innings and giving up four runs, two earned, on 10 hits while striking out six batters.
Milwaukee 6, Sioux City 1 – Box Score
The Milwaukee Milkmen went to work early and made that stand up for a 6-1 win against the Sioux City Explorers.
In the top of the first inning, DH Jose Rosario doubled home 2B Cesar Valera to start the scoring and, two batters later, Rf Nolan Earley singled to left to plate both Rosario and C Manuel Boscan. In the fifth, 3B Garrett Copeland singled to plate CF Jeff Chandler and Boscan singled home Valera. In the next frame, SS Sam Dexter lifted a sac fly that plated 1B Glen McClain and in the bottom half, the Explorers scored their only run of the day when OF Michael Lang (2-for-5) scored on an error.
After a brief delay due to lighting issues in the ninth, the Explorers threaten to score after loading up the bases but a strikeout ended the threat and the game, preserving the win.
Lincoln 4, St. Paul 2 – Box Score
After Monday’s game was suspended by rain in the fourth inning, the Lincoln Saltdogs earned the win on Tuesday 4-2 against the St. Paul Saints.
The Saints scored both of their runs when RF Max Murphy (2-for-4) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Saltdogs tied the score in the top of the sixth inning when RF Randolph Oduber and 3B Cody Regis hit back-to-back RBI singles. DH Curt Smith gave the Saltdogs the lead for good when he hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth.
C Daniel Herrera went 3-for-4 for the Saltdogs.
Reliever Jake Hohensee earned the win for working six innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four batters.
St. Paul 4, Lincoln 1 (7 Innings) – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints bounced back in the second game of their doubleheader with the Lincoln Saltdogs to earn a 4-2 win in seven innings.
The Saltdogs broke the ice in the top of the third inning as RF Joe Lytle scored on a single from LF Tyler Pfeffer but the Saints quickly took control of the game when LF John Silviano doubled home both CF Dan Motl (2-for-3) and DH Brady Shoemaker (1-for-1) in the bottom half. The Saints tacked on two more runs in the sixth when Motl and Shoemaker each added RBI singles.
Reliever Jordan Jess was tabbed as the winner for throwing 2.1 innings without allowing a run on two hits to go along with his three strikeouts.
