Cleburne 9, Kane County 6 (11 Innings) – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders (1-1) posted five runs in the top of the 11th inning top outlast the Kane County Cougars 9-6 on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

The Cougars (1-1) erased an early 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning when 3B Dylan Busby (2-for-5) doubled home both DH Nick Anderson and 1B Josh Rolette. After a scoreless ninth, both teams plated a pair of runs in the 10th. In the top of the 11th, RF Cesar Trejo (3-for-4) pushed 3B Chase Simpson (3-for-5) across the plate with a single and DH Bryce Brueggemeyer loaded the bases in the next at-bat as he was hit by a pitch. 1B Matt Morgan drew a walk to score C Hector Sanchez and 2B Vaibhav Desai singled home Trejo and Morgan and CF Zach Nehrir also scored after LF Hunter Wolfe lifted a sac fly to center.

The Cougars scored a pair of runs in the home half of the inning, but the rally was cut short when Anderson struck out swinging to end the game.

 

Winnipeg 7, Fargo-Moorhead 6 – Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (1-1) posted five runs in the bottom of the first and added a crucial run late to top the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 7-6 on Saturday night at Shaw Park.

The RedHawks (1-1) struck first as 1B Drew Ward hit a solo shot in the top of the first inning for his second homer of the season. In the home half, LF Eric Rivera (2-for-4) singled home 3B Raul Navarro and SS Andrew Martinez hit a grand slam to push the Goldeyes out in front 5-1. In the second, 1B David Washington doubled home Rivera to give the home team a 6-1 lead but the RedHawks rallied back. Fargo-Moorhead tied the score in the top of the eighth as RF John Silviano hit his second home run of the year, leveling the score at 6-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, DH Logan Hill hit a solo shot of his own for what proved to be the game winning run.

 

Sioux City 4, Kansas City 2

The Sioux City Explorers (2-0) used a pair of early long balls to top the Kansas City Monarchs 4-2 on Saturday evening.

The Monarchs (0-2) took the early lead as Pete Kozma scored on a wild pitch and J.C. Escarra hit a solo home run in the second to take a 2-0 lead. In the third, DH Nick Franklin hit a two-run home run and SS Nate Samson followed suit with a solo shot to push the visitors out in front. Samson added a sac fly in the seventh for an insurance run.

Starting pitcher Tyler Beardsley earned the win as he threw 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out five batters.

 

Sioux Falls 6, Lincoln 2 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (1-1) pulled away late to even the opening weekend series with the Lincoln Saltdogs with a 6-2 win at Haymarket Park.

The Saltdogs (1-1) drew first blood with a bases-loaded walk in the first and neutralized 2B Zane Gurwitz’s fourth-inning two run homer with an RBI double from 2B Josh Altmann in the fifth. In the sixth, LF Cole Pengilly (2-for-4) gave the Canaries the lead for good with a three-run blast and 3B Gavin LaValley (2-for-4) added a solo shot in the eighth to put a bow on the win.

For the Canaries, RF Wyatt Ulrich and 1B Trey Michalczewski each added a pair of hits while LF Justin Byrd did the same for the Saltdogs.

 

Milwaukee 10, Lake Country 7 – Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen (2-0) held off the Lake Country DockHounds 10-7 on Saturday night at Franklin Field, closing out the win in style with a double play.

14 of the 18 batters that stepped to the plate in the game registered at least one hit and six of them had multi-hit games. For the Milkmen, LF Chad Sedio went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and C Dylan Kelly went 2-for-3 with a run scored. For the DockHounds, LF Jake Snider went 3-for-4 with a homer and three runs scored and CF Dai-Kang Yang, 1B Gio Brusa and C Wilfredo Giminez each added a pair of hits.

The Milkmen took control of the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning as 3B Logan Trowbridge drew a bases-loaded walk, 2B Bryan Torres had an RBI ground out and RF Trey Martin scored on a wild pitch.

 

Gary SouthShore 14, Chicago 5 – Box Score

A hot start and an eight-run fourth inning propelled the Gary SouthShore RailCats (1-1) to a 14-5 victory over the Chicago Dogs at Impact Field on Saturday.

The RailCats took the lead in the top of the first inning when DH Thomas Walraven singled home CF Javeyan Williams (2-for-6) and 2B Michael Woodworth (2-for-3) scored as RF Alec Olund hit into a double play. In the second, Woodworth lifted a sac fly to score LF K.V. Edwards (2-for-4) and, in the next at-bat, C Michael Cruz hit a two-run double.

In the fourth, Williams had an RBI single, Walraven and Edwards drew bases-loaded walks, Olend hit an RBI sac fly and SS Daniel Lingua (2-for-4) added a grand slam to give the RailCats complete control of the game.

For the Dogs, 1B K.C. Hobson went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and SS Harrison Smith had a pair of RBIs.
