Railroaders cruise to series win thanks to Simpson’s 3 homers

Cleburne 14, Kansas City 5    Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders (14-29) take the series against the Kansas City Monarchs (27-16) in emphatic fashion.

The Railroaders struck gold first, scoring 1 run in the top of the 2nd inning from 3B Chase Simpson’s (4-for-5, 3 runs, 6 RBIs) solo home run to lead the Monarchs 1-0. The Monarchs would respond in the bottom of the 4th inning with 2 solo home runs from DH Matt Adams (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs) and 1B Gabriel Guerrero (1-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI) to take the lead from the Railroaders. Cleburne would take a 2-2 tie into the top of the 6th before the Railroaders would explode for 10 runs in the inning which started with another Simpson home run. Other notable performances from the inning include a 2 RBI double from SS Nick Shumpert (1-for-5, 1 run, 2 RBIs) and a grand slam home run from Chase Simpson. Kansas City would tack on 2 unanswered runs in the 6th and 7th inning, but it was not enough to stop Cleburne from scoring 2 more runs in the 8th. CF Jan Hernandez (3-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI) would hit his 18th home run of the season in the bottom of the 6th inning, taking the sole lead in the home run race.

The Cleburne Railroaders will head back home to the Depot at Cleburne Station to host the Sioux Falls Canaries Friday, July 1st at 7:06 p.m. while the Kansas City Monarchs will continue their homestand at Legends Field as they will face the Gary SouthShore RailCats Friday, July 1st at 7:00 p.m.

 

Lake Country 12, Milwaukee 2 – Box Score

The Lake Country DockHounds (17-27) defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen (20-22) on Thursday night to finish the series with a clean sweep.   

RF Lamar Briggs (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) scored a 2-run home run in the 5th inning that also brought home CF Tristan Carranza (3-for-3, 3 RBIs). The DockHounds had a major scoring inning in the bottom of the 6th inning with back-to-back home runs from Carranza and 2B Zion Pettigrew (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) that scored half of the runs for the inning. The same duo hit another set of back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the 7th inning that brought the team’s lead to 11-1. RF Correlle Prime (1-for-4, 1 RBI) hit a home run in the top of the 6th inning to put the Milkmen on the board. LF Will Kengor (1-for-4) scored the last home run of the night in the top of the 9th inning, but it was not enough to reach the 12 runs scored by the DockHounds. 

The DockHounds will travel to Kane County to take on the Kane County Cougars on Friday, July 1st at 6:30 p.m. while the Milkmen will travel to Chicago to go up against the Chicago Dogs. 

 

Sioux Falls 12, Sioux City 3 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (15-28) came out victorious against the Sioux City Explorers (17-24) on Thursday night in their series finale. 

The Explorers scored the first run of the night that came from a home run that was hit by 2B Danny Amaral (1-for-5, 1 RBI). The Canaries scored 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, 3 of which were unearned. In the bottom of the 2nd, RF Trey Martin (1-for-3) scored off of a single that was hit by 1B Gabe Snyder (1-for-4, 1 RBI). Three more runs were scored in the top of the 5th inning by the Canaries by RF Wyatt Ulrich (1-for-6) after a single that was hit by 1B Trey Michalczewski (1-for-3, 1 RBI), DH Jabari Henry (1-for-4, 1 RBI), and Michalczewski. 

The Explorers will host the Goldeyes on Friday, July 1st while the Canaries travel to take on the Railroaders at 7:06 p.m.

 

Lincoln 8, Kane County 7 – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs (22-20) took a narrow win over the Kane County Cougars (22-21) on Thursday night at Haymarket park. 

The Cougars were the first to score for the night in the top of the 3rd inning when 1B Sherman Johnson (3-for-5) was brought home by a double that was hit by RF Ernie De La Trinidad 1-for-3, 2 RBIs) and LF Nick Anderson (1-for-2) was brought home by a sacrifice fly. The Saltdogs took the lead after 2B Josh Altmann (1-for-4, 2 RBIs), RF Welington Dotel (0-for-4, 1 RBI), and CF Hunter Clanin (0-for-3) all scored in the bottom of the 4th inning. Altmann had the major play of the night when he scored a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Cougars responded by scoring 4 more runs in the top of the 6th inning, but fell short by just 1 run. 

The Saltdogs travel to Fargo-Moorhead to take on the RedHawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1st while the Cougars will host the Lake Country DockHounds at 6:30 p.m. 

 

Chicago 3, Gary 0    Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (28-14) shut out the Gary SouthShore RailCats (20-24) to complete the sweep Thursday night at the Steel Yard.

The Dogs and RailCats took a 0-0 tie into the 3rd inning before SS Connor Kopach (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs) hit a solo home run over the right field bullpens to take a 1-0 lead over Gary SouthShore. Chicago would strike again in the top of the 7th inning with an RBI double from Kopach. Dogs 3B Steve Wilkerson would blast a home run over the left field wall in the top of the 9th to add a little insurance to the Dogs lead, making it 3-0. For Gary SouthShore, CF Alec Olund went 2-for-4 and LF Zach Racusin went 1-for-3.

The Chicago Dogs will head back to Impact Field to host the Milwaukee Milkmen Friday, July 1st at 7:00 p.m. while the Gary SouthShore RailCats will travel to Legends Field to battle the Kansas City Monarchs Friday, July 1st at 7:00 p.m.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Winnipeg 3    Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (31-12) take the series in a big win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-19) Thursday night at Shaw Park.

The Goldeyes got on the scoreboard first with a sacrifice fly RBI by 1B David Washington (1-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBIs). The RedHawks responded immediately with a sacrifice fly out of their own thanks to CF Evan Alexander (2-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI). The RedHawks and the Goldeyes took a 1-1 tie into the top of the 4th before Winnipeg RF Max Murphy (3-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI) hits an RBI triple to take the lead. In the top of the 8th inning, Fargo-Moorhead SS Sam Dexter (0-for-3, 1 RBI) and C Christian Correa (1-for-4, 1 RBI) each batted in a run to take a 3-1 lead. Both the RedHawks and Goldeyes would score 1 run in the 9th inning to end the game. 

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will head home to host the Lincoln Saltdogs at Newman Outdoor Stadium at 7:02 p.m. on Friday, July 1st while the Winnipeg Goldeyes will pack up and head to Mercy Field to battle the Sioux City Explorers Friday, July 1st at 7:05 p.m.
