The defending champion Gary SouthShore RailCats thumped the St. Paul Saints Sunday afternoon, 14-5. The RailCats exercised plenty of patience at the plate, matching their 13 hits with 13 walks. After jumping out to a 5-1 lead, the RailCats sealed the game in an eight-run eighth inning, which included eight walks. RailCats’ 2B Zac Mitchell and 1B Jeremy Hamilton both went 2-for-4 with two walks and two RBIs. Mitchell scored a game-high three times. For the Saints, CF Angelo Songco went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Right-hander Stephen Bougher picked up the win for Gary SouthShore in his first start of the season, tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits while striking out one.

A three-run first inning was all Wichita would need to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs, 3-0. 2B Jake Kahaulelio singled, stole second and scored on DH Brent Clevlen’s RBI double. Clevlen then stole third and scored on a 1B Chun-Hsiu Chen RBI single. 2B Dillon Hazlett kept the rally going with a two-out RBI double to give the Wingnuts a 3-0 lead. The two first-inning doubles by Clevlen and Hazlett were the only extra-base hits for either team all game. Three runs proved more than enough for starter Justin Klipp, who notched a win after six scoreless innings. Klipp struck out six, surrendering four hits and one walk. Closer Matt Nevarez closed the door in the ninth for his second save this season.
