Gary SouthShore 3, Joplin 0- Box
Three RailCats pitchers — RHP Ayron Costa, RHP Santiago Rodriguez, and RHP Jorge De Leon — allowed just three hits to blank the Blasters 3-0 and keep Gary SouthShore’s playoff hopes alive. Costa tossed 5.1 innings, giving up a hit and walk, and struck out one batter to earn the win. Rodriguez followed with 1.2 scoreless innings, and De Leon fanned four over two innings to pick up the save.
Offensively, CF Chase Harris scored on an error in the first, and 2B John Holland hit an RBI single in the second to push the lead to 2-0. Holland drove in the third run as well, a sacrifice fly in the seventh. 3B Kris Goodman and SS Jarred Mederos each had two hits for the RailCats.
For Joplin, RF Cie Arell was 2-for-3.
Lincoln 5, St. Paul 2- Box
The Saltdogs, chasing a playoff berth, took a much-needed 5-2 victory over the Saints. With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh, 3B Juan Martinez put the Saltdogs ahead for good with an RBI single. C Luis Alen and LF Jon Smith provided insurance with a pair of RBI singles of their own later in the inning. Alen, Smith, SS Tyler Urps and 1B Austin Gallagher had two hits each for the Saltdogs in the win.
RHP Brad Orosey struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief work, picking up the win. RHP Evan Reed struck out two more in a scoreless ninth for the save.
For St. Paul, 2B Ryan Cavan was 2-for-3.
Sioux Falls 4, Kansas City 2- Box
The Canaries held off a late comeback attempt by the T-Bones to earn a 4-2 win on the road. Sioux Falls struck first with a solo home run by 1B Jake Taylor in the fourth inning, and added two more runs in the sixth. DH J.C. Linares hit an RBI single, and LF Cameron Monger added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0. The Canaries’ final run was scored on an error in the eighth inning.
Linares led Sioux Falls with a three-hit game, while Taylor notched two hits. LHP Joe Bircher struck out eight over seven shutout innings to earn the win. RHP Madison Boer struck out the side to pick up the save, despite allowing a run.
For Kansas City, C Nolan Johnson was 3-for-3.
Winnipeg 16, Fargo-Moorhead 6- Box
The Goldeyes pounded out 16 runs on 16 hits and raced past the RedHawks 16-6. Already up 7-4, American Association All-Star LF Willie Cabrera hit a two-run home run, his 17th of the year, to extend the lead to five in the sixth inning. The Goldeyes broke the game open with seven runs in the eighth inning. The frame included a bases-clearing three-RBI double by RF Josh Romanski. Romanski, 1B David Rohm and C Carlton Tanabe each had three hits in the win. Romanski finished with five RBI, while Tanabe and Cabrera had three each.
On the mound, RHP Edwin Carl struck out eight over five innings to earn the win.
For Fargo-Moorhead, RF KD Kang and C Ryan Wagner had two RBI each.
Laredo 10, Wichita 4- Box
The Lemurs, chasing the American Association wild card, slugged their way past the Wingnuts 10-4. After Wichita scored four runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4, Laredo plated three of their own in the bottom of the frame. 3B Abel Nieves singled in a run to give the Lemurs a 5-4 lead, and two more runs scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of CF Drew Martinez. RF Denis Phipps added an RBI single in the eighth, while 2B J.D. Pulfer and DH Ty Morrison drove in runs on RBI groundouts later in the frame.
Martinez had three hits for the Lemurs to lead the team. RHP Danny Reynolds tossed an inning of relief, striking out one and picking up the win.
For Wichita, RF Nick Van Stratten was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Sioux City at Texas- Postponed (Rain)
The game between the Explorers and AirHogs was postponed due to rain in the Amarillo, Texas area. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, September 3 beginning at 4:05 p.m. Central time at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
