Durham, N.C. – The contract of Sioux Falls Canaries SS K.C. Serna was sold to the Philadelphia Phillies organization, the American Association announced on Friday.
Baseball America’s top independent prospect in 2013 while with Amarillo, Serna appeared in all 100 of the Sox’ games, putting together a .300 average to go along with 45 RBI and 26 doubles. In December, he was traded along with LHP Matt Wickswat to Sioux Falls in exchange for INF Cory Morales.
A 42nd-round choice of Cleveland in the 2011 draft, Serna spent the 2011 season with Class-A Mahoning Valley of the New York-Penn League. The Ventura, Calif., native played collegiately at Oregon, where he was a three-season starting shortstop for the Ducks, and set a school single-season record with 81 hits as a sophomore in 2010
