PAYNE’S SINGLE IN THE 11TH CARRIES SALTDOGS PAST RAILCATS

Lincoln 6, Gary SouthShore 5 (11 Innings) – Box

Lincoln 2B Aaron Payne singled home C Ryan Wiggins in the top of the 11th inning with the game winning run as the Saltdogs edged past the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 6-5. Both Payne and Wiggins each had two hits on the afternoon while SS Mike Gilmartin drove in a pair of runs. Lincoln LF Tucker White went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and DH Jeremy Hamilton had two hits in five at-bats and plated a run. Saltdogs reliever Conor Spink tossed two scoreless innings and notched his fourth victory. For Gary SouthShore in the loss, OF Adam Taylor and CF Brandon Thomas each hit a home run.

Laredo 6, Grand Prairie 0 – Box

Laredo Lemurs starter Matt Loosen and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as they downed the Grand Prairie AirHogs by a 6-0 final. Loosen allowed the five hits along with two walks and struck out five batters. With the win, the righty improved to 4-5 on the season. Laredo relievers Luis De La Cruz and John Brebbia each tossed an inning combining to allow one walk and striking out three batters. Offensively for Laredo, 2B Jeudy Valdez led the way going 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Lemurs DH Kevin Taylor chipped in with two hits while CF Dvontrey Richardson launched his eighth home run of the year.

Rockland 4, Amarillo 2 – Box

Rockland continues to stay red hot as they win their seventh straight in a 4-2 decision over the Amarillo Thunderheads. Boulders 2B Steve Nyisztor had a pair of hits in the contest while RF Joe Maloney went 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI. Boulders C Marcus Nidiffer chipped in with his 14th home run and 63rd RBI of the season, both tops in the Can-Am. Rockland starting pitcher Richard Salazar turned in another solid performance en route to his league leading 11th win of the year. Salazar threw six innings allowing a run, unearned, on five hits and struck out four batters.
