Durham, N.C. — The Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of Wichita Wingnuts LHP Alex Sogard, the American Association announced on Tuesday.
Sogard, 28, had an excellent season out of the bullpen in 2015, assembling a 3.49 ERA in 36 relief appearances, including one save. The Phoenix, Ariz., native made his first 33 appearances with St. Paul before being traded to Wichita on August 29.
Most recently, Sogard pitched for the Czech Republic’s team at the World Baseball Classic earlier this month, allowing no earned runs in a team-high 6.2 innings pitched.
Prior to the American Association, Sogard spent five seasons in the Houston and Arizona organizations, reaching as high as Triple-A. He was chosen in the 26th round of the 2010 draft out of North Carolina State University.
