OFFENSE POWERS SAINTS TO 1-0 FINALS’ SERIES LEAD

The St. Paul Saints took a 1-0 American Association Final lad with a win Wednesday over the Sioux City Explorers.

In the win, the Saints outhit the Explorers 16 to 5, scoring in every inning except the seventh and the ninth along the way.

The seven through nine-hole hitters led St. Paul with 3B Chesny Young going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, SS Chris Baker going 0-for-4 with two RBIs, and LF Blake Schmidt going 1-for-5 with two RBIs.

Saints’ SP Landon Beck allowed one run in his four-inning start. RHP Jordan Jess followed Beck, allowing two unearned runs in three innings of work to earn the win.

Sioux City’s SP Eric Karch was tabbed with the loss after allowing six earned in the first three innings.

2B Drew Stankiewicz (0-for-3) drew two walks and picked up the only RBI for the Explorers.

Game 2 of the series is Thursday in Sioux City. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 p.m.
