Amarillo 11, Winnipeg 7
Amarillo scored nine runs in the second inning to take a commanding 11-1 lead and would cruise from there to an 11-7 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Four Sox batters had multi-hit games including 1B Keith Brachold who had a 3-for- 5 game with a run scored and two RBI. Amarillo LF Joe Weik, DH Cory Patton and C Jeff Farnham each collected two hits on the night with Patton driving in a pair of runs. Sox starting pitcher Joe Zeller picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work. For Winnipeg in the loss, CF Reggie Abercrombie went 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI.
Sioux Falls 5, Sioux City 4
Canaries RF Steven Tinoco’s three-run blast in the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game as Sioux Falls edged past the Sioux City Explorers, 5-4. The Canaries took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to LF Brandon Jones’ two-run home run. Sioux City fought right back scoring two runs in the third and one more in the fourth to a take 3-2 advantage. However, that did not last for long as Tinoco launched his three- run shot in the bottom of the fourth to give the Canaries a 5-3 lead and they would go on to victory. It was Tinoco’s only hit of the contest in two official at-bats along with a walk. Sioux Falls starting pitcher Ben Moore picked up the win as he tossed six innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Canaries reliever Alan DeRatt gave up a run on two hits in the ninth but closed it out to preserve the Sioux Falls win.
St. Paul 6, Gary SouthShore 0
The St. Paul Saints scored five runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead and would go on to a 6-0 victory over the 2013 league champion, Gary SouthShore RailCats. Saints 1B Henry Wrigley went 1-for-3 with a home run while SS Joey Becker collected two hits in four at-bats and scored a run. St. Paul 1B/3B Joe Bonfe scored two runs and drove in one in a 1-for-3 night. Saints starter Anthony Claggett notched the win as he went 6 2/3 innings giving only a hit and two walks while fanning five batters. The St. Paul relief core of Ryan Bollinger, Jon Plefka and Dylan Thomas gave up a total of three hits through the rest of the game and struck out two batters
Fargo-Moorhead 9, Laredo 4
Fargo-Moorhead DH Zach Penprase launched a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and help the RedHawks win 9-4 over the Laredo Lemurs. Fargo-Moorhead’s 7-8 hitters of 2B Brandon Newton and C Petey Paramore went a combined 5-for-8 at the plate with five runs scored and a RBI. RedHawks reliever Joe Harris tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief giving up only a hit while striking a batter to earn the victory. Shortstop Devin Goodwin hit two home runs in a 3-for-4 night for Laredo in defeat.
Wichita 10, Grand Prairie 8
Wichita rallied from an early 6-1 deficit to defeat the Grand Prairie AirHogs by the score of 10-8. Wingnuts starting pitcher David Amberson drove in three runs and scored a pair in a 1-for-3 night. Shortstop Ryan Khoury chipped in with three hits in five at-bats while 2B Jake Kahaulelio went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI. Wichita reliever Daniel Bennett picked up the win after tossing a scoreless inning allowing two hits.
Lincoln 7, Kansas City 7 (Top 14- Suspended)
The game between Lincoln and Kansas City was suspended in the top of the 14th inning due to curfew. It will be completed on Friday, May 16th beginning at 6:05 pm followed by the regularly scheduled game.
