NINE-RUN FIFTH INNING CARRIES SIOUX FALLS TO WIN

Sioux Falls 11, St. Paul 4 – Box

The Sioux Falls Canaries scored nine big runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-2 lead and they would roll on from there to an 11-4 win over the St. Paul Saints. Sioux Falls had 15 hits in the contest with five batters having multi-hit games. Canaries LF Cameron Monger led the way going 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. Sioux Falls leadoff hitter Ethan Chapman added three hits and drove in three runs while 1B David Bergin had a 2-for-4 night with a home run and three RBI. Canaries starting pitcher Dylan Thompson notched the win and improved his record to 3-1 on the season. Thompson gave up three earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Sioux City 4, Lincoln 3 – Box

First baseman Ino Patron hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to help the Sioux City Explorers overcome a 3-2 deficit and beat the Lincoln Saltdogs, 4-3.  Patron had two hits on the night with LF Derrick Robinson chipping in with three hits in five at-bats and a run scored. Sioux City CF Tim Colwell and DH LeVon Washington also collected two hits apiece with Colwell scoring a pair of runs. Explorers starting pitcher Cody Forsythe tossed seven innings and picked up his ninth win of the year. Forsythe allowed three earned runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. For Lincoln in the losing effort, C Ryan Wiggins belted a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
