Chicago Dogs outfielder Narciso Crook and Kane County Cougars starter Alex Troop won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the opening week of the 2024 season ending on 5/12, the league announced Monday.
Crook took this award home due in large part to his three home-run performance on Sunday afternoon, powering the Dogs to an 8-5 win to complete the sweep against Gary-SouthShore.
In the first three games the former major leaguer went 5-for-9 at the plate with a double mixed in as well and six runs batted in. He also drew two walks and stole a base.
Crook has some familiarity with Chicago, making it to the majors with the Cubs back in 2022. He spent most of the 2023 season with Worcester, the Red Sox’ AAA affiliate.
Troop made quite the statement in his American Association debut on Friday night in Milwaukee.
The right-hander picked up the win by going five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out 10,
The Illinois native who grew up a Cougars fan spent the last six seasons in the Washington Nationals organization, reaching as high as AAA Rochester.
Pointstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.
