Kansas City 11, Cleburne 3 Box Score
The Kansas City Monarchs (27-13) start off the week with an emphatic win against the Cleburne Railroaders (11-29) Monday night at Legends Field.
Both teams attacked early, with Kansas City taking a 4-3 lead into the 5th inning. The Monarchs increased their lead, scoring 5 runs in the 5th inning thanks to 3 home runs from CF Willie Abreau (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs), 3B Chad De La Guerra (2-for-5, 1 run, 3 RBIs), and C J.C. Escarra (1-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI).The Monarchs never looked back after this, adding one run in the 6th inning from a DH Matt Adams (1-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI) home run and an RBI single from SS Kevin Santa (1-for-1, 1 RBI) in the bottom of the 8th. For the Railroaders, C Hector Sanchez went 1-for 3 with an RBI double – his 4th double of the season – in the 2nd inning. Also for Cleburne, CF Zach Nehrir (1-for-4, 1 run) stole his 14th base of the season, tying for third overall in the American Association.
The Kansas City Monarchs and Cleburne Railroaders will duel for game 2 of the 3-game series Tuesday, June 28th at Legends Field at 7:00 p.m.
Lincoln 3, Kane County 2 – Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs (21-18) came out victorious after a close game against the Kane County Cougars (20-20) on Monday night at Haymarket Park.
The first run of the game wasn’t scored until the bottom of the second inning when RF Welington Dotel (1-for-3) was brought home by a double that was hit by CF Hunter Clanin (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) to put the Saltdogs on the board. The Cougars tied up the game at 1-1 at the top of the 4th inning after RF Steve Lombardozzi (2-for-2) scored off of a single hit by CF Jimmy Kerrigan (1-for-4, 1 RBI). Both teams managed to score in the 6th inning starting off with SS Galli Cribbs Jr. (1-for-3) making it home after LF Cornelius Randolph (1-for-2, 1 RBI) sacrificed a fly to center field for the Cougars. In the bottom of the 6th, C Skyler Weber (3-for-4) scored after a dropped 3rd strike. The Saltdogs earned their winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning when Clanin scored a single home run to bring the score to 3-2.
The Saltdogs and the Cougars will face off against one another again on Tuesday, June 28th at 7:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
