Milwaukee 3, Winnipeg 0 (Game 1/7 Innings – Box Score
The Milwaukee Milkmen held the Winnipeg Goldeyes to just three hits in game one of their doubleheader as they picked up a 3-0 win.
In the top of the first inning, 2B Dylan Tice doubled to score CF Brett Vertigan (3-for-4) and then scored himself in the next at-bat when LF Adam Brett Walker II singled to left. Walker II added the team’s only other run in the top of the fifth when he pushed 3B Logan Trowbridge across the plate by bouncing out to third. That RBI gave him 50 on the season.
Starting pitcher Drew Hutchison earned the win as he went five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out 11 batters. Reliever Peyton Grey struck out the side in the seventh to earn the save.
Winnipeg 3, Milwaukee 0 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes returned the three-hit favor in game two as they shutout the Milwaukee Milkmen 3-0.
Though the Milkmen lost game two, they still clinched the top spot in the American Association season standings and the number one seed in the American Association Finals set to begin on Saturday, September 12 in Milwaukee. They will face the Sioux Falls Canaries in a best-of-seven series to decide the 2020 Champion.
The Goldeyes scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as SS Wes Darvill (3-for-3) doubled home 2B Kevin Lachance and then scored when 1B Kyle Martin singled in the next at-bat. Winnipeg scored the final run of the day in the next inning when Lachance reached on an error, allowing C Nick Oddo to score.
DH Jose Sermo had two of the Milkmen’s three hits in the game.
Chicago 3, Sioux Falls 2 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score
A late home run from 2B Edwin Arroyo pushed the Chicago Dogs past the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-2 in the first game of their doubleheader on Wednesday evening.
SS Blake Allemand scored the game’s opening run when he touched home thanks to an error in the bottom of the first inning. The Canaries moved in front in the top of the fourth inning when 3B Damek Tomscha (2-for-4) singled to left to plate both RF Grant Kay and LF Ryan Brett. But the Dogs tied things up in the fifth as 1B K.C. Hobson lifted a sac fly to score CF Michael Crouse (2-for-2) and Arroyo (2-for-3) provided the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth with his fourth homer of the year.
SS Alay Lago and CF Logan Landon each added a pair of hits for the Canaries.
Chicago 5, Sioux Falls 3 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score
The Chicago Dogs rallied late again in game two with three runs in the sixth to sweep their doubleheader with the Sioux Falls Canaries 5-3.
Both teams found the scoreboard in the second innings as 2B Alay Lago hit a lead-off homer for the Canaries and SS Blake Allemand (3-for-4) singled home RF Victor Roache (2-for-3) for the Dogs. 1B Clint Coulter (2-for-3) edged the Canaries in front in the third with an RBI single but the Dogs tied the score in the fourth when 1B K.C. Hobson (2-for-4) hit a single to plate Allemand. 3B Damek Tomscha gave the Canaries the lead again in the fifth when he bounced out to allow CF Logan Landon to score.
In the sixth, Allemand scored on an error, 3B Joey Terdoslavich (2-for-3) tripled to score CF Michael Crouse and then scored when Roache singled later in the inning for the eventual game-winning run.
St. Paul 4, Fargo-Moorhead 2 – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints picked up their fourth win in a row as they topped the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-2 on Wednesday night at CHS Field.
The RedHawks struck first in the top of the fourth when 1B Drew Ward homered but 1B John Silviano countered with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the frame. In the sixth, RF Correlle Prime lifted a sac fly to score LF Brennan Metzger, leveling the score at 2-2. In the eighth, RF Troy Alexander reached base on an error and that allowed both Silviano and CF Alonzo Harris to score a pair of pivotal runs.
Both teams had four hits from four different batters and reliever Jose Velez faced a pair of batters in the eighth inning, retiring both, to earn the win. Closer Jameson McGrane tallied his 16th save of the year (tied for the most in the league).
Though outside of the postseason, the Saints have locked down third place for the 2020 season.
