MAZZOLA’S HOME RUN RALLIES WINNIPEG PAST ST. PAUL

Winnipeg 4, St. Paul 3Box

Winnipeg RF Josh Mazzola hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to help the Goldeyes rally from a 3-1 deficit and beat St. Paul by the score of 4-3. It was Mazzola’s 14th home run of the season and his only hit of the contest. Winnipeg 2B Brock Bond and CF Reggie Abercrombie each went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Goldeyes starting pitcher Nick Hernandez continues his terrific season as he wins his league leading 12th game of the season. The southpaw went 6 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits and striking out four batters. For the Saints in their final game ever at Midway Stadium, LF Willie Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Sioux Falls 5, Lincoln 4Box

Sioux Falls scored four big runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit and beat Lincoln by the score of 5-4. Canaries 3B Carlos Mendez went 3-for-4 on the night with a run scored and RBI while 2B Ty Forney had a triple and drove in three runs. Sioux Falls starting pitcher Kye Winter notched his second of the win of the season as he tossed six innings giving up four earned runs on 11 hits. Canaries closer Alan DeRatt allowed a hit in the ninth inning but held on to tally his 14th save of the year. For Lincoln in defeat, 2B Luis Nunez had a tremendous game going 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI.

Sioux City 6, Gary SouthShore 1Box

The Sioux City Explorers downed the Gary SouthShore RailCats by a 6-1 final and win 2-of-3 in the series. Sioux City had 11 hits in the contest with three batters having two-hit games. Explorers 1B Rene Tosoni went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and SS Tommy Mendonca had two hits and two RBI. Sioux City 2B/LF Michael Lang was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored. Explorers starter Lars Liguori tossed 6 2/3 innings and won his second game. Liguori allowed an earned run on three hits and fanned two batters. With both Lincoln and Gary SouthShore losing, the Saltdogs and RailCats are still tied for first in the Central Division with four games to play.

Laredo 5, Amarillo 3Box

Laredo CF Byron Wiley launches a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and lift the Lemurs to a 5-3 win over the Amarillo Sox. That was Wiley’s only hit of the game in four at-bats along with scoring two runs.  Laredo 2B Kyle Brandenburg had a 2-for-3 game with a run scored while CF Casey Harman drove in two runs. Lemurs reliever Michael Shreves pitched two shutout innings with a strikeout to earn the victory. Shreves improves his mark to 5-3 on the year.
