KJELDGAARD DRIVES HOME WINNING RUN AS SIOUX CITY TOPS KANSAS CITY

Sioux City Explorers 2, Kansas City T-Bones 1Box

A pitcher’s duel between RHP Jeff Marquez and LHP Blake Holovach ended in a top of the ninth, go-ahead run to give the Explorers a victory. With the score tied 1-1 1B Brock Kjeldgaard came to bat with men on second and third. Kjeldgaard reached first on the fielder’s choice. He did exactly what he needed to as RF Michael Lang came home for what would become the winning run.

Gary SouthShore Railcats 9, Lincoln Saltdogs 4

The Railcats were led by the offensive explosion that was IF Zac Mitchell, who filled the scorecard with 2’s. 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 3 RBIs. The biggest hit of the night was a bases clearing triple for Mitchell, which brought home OF Jon Jones, IF Ryan Brockett and C Michael Vaughn.

For Lincoln, OF Brian Joynt scored twice. The first was on a double by IF CJ Ziegler in the first inning. The Second time was on a OF Jon Gaston home run in the third. The three players would combine for all four of the Saltdogs’ runs.

Sioux Falls Canaries 9, Quebec Capitales 5Box

The game was action packed from the very start, with Quebec jumping out to an early lead with a 3 run first inning. The Canaires would climb back into the game led by the middle of the lineup. The 4-5-6 hitters for the Canaires combined to go 5-9 with 7 runs, 5 RBI and 2 walks. Every time 1B David Bergin, 2B Michael Wing or DH Jason Repko got on base they scored. Repko began the comeback by launching a 2 run home run in the bottom of the second.

After surrendering a run in the top of the eight, the Canaries were hanging on to a one run lead. The Capitales didn’t want to take their chances pitching to Repko and intentionally walked him to load the bases, bringing up C Richard Stock, who made them pay with a bases clearing double.

2B Jonathan Malo RF Alexei Bell had home runs for the Capitales.

Amarillo Thunderheads 8, St. Paul Saints, 3

RHP Matt Larkins struck out five Saints and earned the win for the Thunderheads. IF Zack MacPhee scored two runs in a balanced offensive attack. Seven different Thunderheads scored in the game.

IF Sam Maus had two hits and run for the Saints.

Wichita Wingnuts 1, Winnipeg Goldeyes 0 (10 innings)Box

This 10-inning thriller ended in a walkoff single by 2B Luis Hernandez. Hernandez came up with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning. With the count full, he drove home the winning run as C John Nester touched home plate. It would be the only run Wichita would need to bring home the victory.

Winnipeg got a strong outing from LHP Nick Hernandez, who pitched 6.1 innings with 6 strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Laredo Lemurs at Grand Prairie AirHogs has been suspended due to rain. The two clubs will resume play on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Grand Prairie Stadium. A 7 inning game will follow the completion of tonight’s game.
