Lincoln 2, Fargo- Moorhead 1 – Box
It was a matchup of two great starting pitchers tonight as Lincoln pulled it out with a two run sixth inning. Jesse Smith just edged out Tyler Herron as the two starters battled throughout the entire game. Herron went eight innings allowing two runs and striking out two, while Smith, who was credited with the victory went 7.1 innings with one earned run and eight strikeouts. Mackenzie King got the save for Lincoln after pitching a perfect ninth.
Lincoln scored two in the sixth inning after a sacrifice fly by DH Curt Smith brought home 3B Eddie Young. Smith was followed by 1B Jeremy Hamilton, who singled to bring home CF Matt Forgatch. Fargo – Moorhead tried to mount a comeback in the eighth. SS Zac Penprase scored a run on an error, but that was the only run Lincoln would allow as they would close out the game.
St. Paul 6, Sioux City 4 – Box
After SS Noah Perio got on base with a double in the eighth inning for Sioux City, 2B Ryan Court brought him home with a single, which would tie the game at 4. St. Paul would break the tie when it was their turn to bat in the inning. The two runs in the bottom of the eighth would be the difference in the game which gave the Saints the victory.
C Vinny DiFazio untied it in dramatic fashion, sending a home run into the stands that would also score CF Mitch Elliott. DiFazio reached base three times, going 2-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI. The home run was DiFazio’s eighth of the season so far. Reliever Michael Zouzalik was credited with the win and Dylan Chavez pitched a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout to get the save.
Laredo 7, Joplin 4 – Box
In a game that saw hitting from everyone involved, Laredo ended up with the victory thanks to a five run fourth inning. Only one of the 18 batters in the game didn’t reach base at all. Laredo was led by the three headed monster of 1B Abel Nieves, RF Kevin Taylor and 3B Juan Silviero. Nieves and Silviero both hit two doubles in the game and combined for five RBI. Taylor ended up scoring three times and had a walk. Starting pitcher Matt Loosen got the win after pitching five innings.
Joplin had four batters with multiple hit games. Perhaps their most impressive batter was 1B Jake Taylor. He went 3-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Taylor also hit his sixth double of the season.
Wichita 7, Sioux Falls 2 – Box
The Wingnuts did all of their scoring in bursts, with a three run sixth inning, followed by a four run seventh inning. RF David Espinosa was the spark for the Wingnuts, going 2-3 with two runs scored, a walk and a double. 2B Luis Hernandez also had a solid day at the plate, he matched Espinosa’s 2-3 and had a run and a walk in the game. LF Joash Brodin added to the run total with two RBIs and a stolen base, his fifth of the season.
Starter Scott Kuzminsky didn’t make many mistakes in his seven innings of work. Kuzminsky only allowed two runs and had two strikeouts to get the victory. The lone runs for Sioux Falls came from CF Jason Repko, who hit a solo home run, and DH Ryan Stock, who had a double.
Gary Southshore 5, Winnipeg 2 – Box
Gary Southshore struck quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning and never relinquished the lead tonight. They relied on great pitching from starter Charlie Rosario, who went seven innings deep only allowing six hits and no runs. Rosario struck out four and Andy Loomis earned the save. Gary Southshore also relied on heavy production from the top of their lineup. Leadoff hitter CFJon Jones went 2-5 and hit a home run. In the middle of the order, number three hitter LF Adam Taylor and 3B J.D. Pulfercombined to go 8-10. Taylor scored two runs in the game. All three hitters also had a stolen base.
Winnipeg also got solid production from the top of the order, with three hitter 1B Casey Hearther going 2-4 with a run scored. RFBrady Wilson also went 2-5 with a stolen base for Winnipeg.
Grand Prairie 8, Amarillo 2 – Box
DH Brian Myrow ended all hopes that Amarillo had at a comeback with an emphatic grand slam in the top of the ninth inning. The home run pushed the two run lead to six, which would end up being the margin of victory for Grand Prairie. Myrow went 2-5 with five RBI and a double. CF Ronnie Richardson scored three times for Grand Prairie. 1B Victor Diaz also swung a hot bat, going 2-5 with a run and two RBI. Starting pitcher Blake Oliver earned the win.
The only two runs of the game for Amarillo came from the bat of 1B Rene Laveret. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Laveret also drove in LF Chad Bunting in the bottom of the eighth. Bunting would go 2-3 with a run scored.
Kansas City at New Jersey
The game between the T-Bones and Jackals was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. from Yogi Berra Stadium.
