LEMURS RIGHTY BECKMAN HEADED TO MIAMI

Beckman

Durham, N.C. — The contract of Laredo Lemurs RHP Ryan Beckman has been purchased by the Miami Marlins organization, the American Association announced on Monday.

In his second season with Laredo, Beckman was one of the league’s top starters, finishing fifth in the AA in ERA (2.92) and innings pitched (132.2), ninth with 97 strikeouts, and tying for fourth with three complete games. He also tied for the Lemurs’ club lead with eight victories.

The Fort Worth, Texas, native made the successful transition from reliever to starter after a superb season out of the bullpen for Laredo the previous season. Beckman went 8-1 with a minuscule 1.37 ERA in 49 relief appearances for the 2015 league champions, limiting opposing hitters to a .208 average.

Previously, Beckman spent six seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization after being chosen in the 18th round out of Grayson County (Texas) College in the 2009 draft.

The 26-year-old is the second Lemurs hurler to have his contract purchased this offseason, following RHP Kamakani Usui, who joined the San Francisco Giants organization in September.
