Laredo 5, Sioux City 2 (Series tied, 1-1)  – Box

The Laredo Lemurs received a solid outing from starting pitcher Henry Garcia and went on to beat the Sioux City Explorers in game two of the American Association Championship Series by the score of 5-2. The series is now tied at 1-1 with game three scheduled in Sioux City on Saturday night.

Laredo scored all five of their runs in the second inning. The big rally started with a walk to 1B Travis Denker. After a single from C Phil Pohl and a sacrifice from CF Drew Martinez, 3B Juan Silverio singled home Denker to make it 1-0 Lemurs. Then the lead increased to 3-0 on a RBI single by SS Roger Bernal and a RBI double by LF Ty Morrison. Laredo would tack on two more runs in the inning on a ground out from 2B Abel Nieves and a single from DH Kevin Taylor.

Sioux City scored both of their runs in the fourth. RF Michael Lang led off the inning with a single. Then Lang moved over to second base as 1B Rene Tosoni was hit by a pitch. After a walk to DH Brock Kjeldgaard to load the bases, SS Noah Perio singled to right field to plate both Lang and Tosoni to make the score 5-2. The Explorers, however, would never get any closer as the Lemurs went on to the game-two victory.

Garcia notched his second win of the postseason. The southpaw gave up two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts in six innings pitched. Laredo reliever John Brebbia finished the last three innings as he struck out five hitters and notched the save. Brebbia has been terrific throughout the playoffs as he has collected three saves and not giving up a run in 9 2/3 innings pitched. He has fanned 11 batters while allowing only one walk.

For the Lemurs at the plate, Silverio went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
