LEMURS BLANK T-BONES IN PITCHERS’ DUEL

JULY 13 RECAPS

Laredo 3, Kansas City 0- Box

Dominant pitching for the Lemurs led Laredo to a 3-0 shutout win over the T-Bones. RHP Barret Loux threw seven shutout innings, scattering six hits and two walks, while striking out six and earning the win. LHP Luis Pollorena worked two perfect innings for the save. Offensively, 3B Cesar Valera opened the scoring for the Lemurs in the first with a solo home run. 1B Jesus Posso provided insurance in the seventh inning, lacing a two-RBI double. Valera had a game-high three hits, while C Zane Chavez went 2-for-3.

For Kansas City, C Brian Erie was 2-for-3.

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Gary SouthShore 6 (12 innings)- Box

3B Josh Mazzola delivered a two-RBI single in the bottom of the 12th, giving the RedHawks a 7-6 win over the RailCats. Trailing 6-4 heading into the frame, SS Bryan Johns led off with a single for Fargo-Moorhead. He advanced to second on a groundout and third on an error. 2B Ryan Pineda walked to put two aboard, and DH Keury De La Cruz followed with an RBI double to drive in Johns. Pineda and De La Cruz both scored on Mazzola’s single to end the game. Pineda’s tying run was part of a big game for the second baseman, as he hit a solo home run in the first and an RBI single in the second. De La Cruz’s three-hit night led the way for Fargo-Moorhead.

RHP Patrick Mincey threw two innings of relief for the win for the RedHawks.

For Gary SouthShore, RF Anthony Cheky was 3-for-6 with a triple and three RBI.

Wichita 3, Joplin 2- Box

3B Zack Cox played the hero role for the Wingnuts in Wednesday’s game, hitting a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning and give Wichita a 3-2 win over the Blasters. Cox also drove in the Wingnuts’ first run on an RBI single in the first inning. LF Brent Dean scored on a double play in the second to give Wichita a 2-1 lead, but Joplin pushed across a run in the sixth inning to necessitate Cox’s blast. Cox was 3-for-4 on the game, while 1B Matt Chavez had a two-hit night.

RHP Chase Johnson tossed 2.2 innings in relief to the win, while LHP Frankie Reed shut the door for the save.

DH Charlie Valerio and RF Mark Krueger each drove in runs for the Blasters in the loss.

St. Paul 7, Sioux Falls 0- Box

RHP Robert Coe twirled a gem for the Saints, leading St. Paul to a 7-0 win over the Canaries. Coe threw eight shutout innings, scattering four hits and three walks while striking out seven. His offense backed him up, scoring six runs in the first four innings. Already up 1-0 heading to the second, a run scored on a double play. Later in the inning, CF Alonzo Harris hit a two-RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. RF Breland Almadova notched his own RBI single in the third, and the lead swelled to 6-0 in the fourth when Harris collected a sacrifice fly. 1B Angelo Songco drove in the game’s final run on an RBI single in the eighth. Almadova, Songco and Harris were three of five Saints with two hits in the win.

For Sioux Falls, RF J.C. Linares had a double in the loss. 

Lincoln 10, Texas 1- Box

The Saltdogs raced past the AirHogs with a 10-1 win at Haymarket Park. A five-run fourth inning pushed a 4-0 Saltdogs lead to 9-0, blowing the game open. DH Rene Leveret hit a two-run double with one out in the fourth, and RF Austin Darby hit a bases-clearing double with two outs in the inning. The feat was part of a huge game for Darby, who also hit a solo home run in the second and drove in a run on a fielder’s choice in the sixth. 1B Curt Smith also homered for Lincoln, a two-run shot in the first, as part of a 3-for-4 game. CF Robby Kuzdale and SS Dainer Moreira joined Smith with three hits for the Saltdogs.

RHP Ryan O’Sullivan struck out five while allowing just one run in seven innings of work for Lincoln, picking up the win.

For Texas, RF Nick Akins was 2-for-4.

Winnipeg 17, Sioux City 3- Box

The Goldeyes exploded for 17 runs on 19 hits in a 17-3 win over the Explorers. LF Willie Cabrera opened the scoring quickly for Winnipeg, hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Cabrera would score on an RBI double from CF Reggie Abercrombie in the third inning to push the lead to 4-0. After Abercrombie came across on a bases-loaded walk, DH Adam Heisler blew the game wide open with a grand slam, making the score 9-0 in the third. C Tanner Murphy drove in a pair on a two-RBI single in the fifth, an inning in which the Goldeyes scored four. SS Maikol Gonzalez continued the scoring with a three-run home run in the seventh, and one last run scored in the eighth on a Murphy sacrifice fly. Eight different Goldeyes had a multi-hit game, let by Cabrera’s 4-for-5 night.

LHP Kevin McGovern scattered three runs across 6.2 innings, picking up the win for Winnipeg.

For the Explorers, SS Nate Samson was 3-for-5 with a double.
