LEAGUE’S TOP HITTER, MURPHY, SOLD TO DIAMONDBACKS’ ORGANIZATION

MOORHEAD, MINN. – The St. Paul Saints have sold the contract of OF Max Murphy to the Arizona Diamondbacks’ organization, the American Association announced Friday, July 12. Murphy is the 32nd  American Association player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization in 2019.

Murphy leaves the league near the top of most offensive categories. He is currently fourth in batting average (.343), first in runs scored (44), first in hits (73), tied for tenth in doubles (13), first in home runs (17), second in RBIs (43), tied for fifth in stolen bases (12), first in slugging (.653), and eleventh in on base percentage (.406).

The 26-year-old began his professional career in 2014 after being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the 2014 MLB Draft. Murphy spent four seasons in the Twins’ organization, reaching double-A in 2017 before latching on with St. Paul prior to the 2018 season. In 98 games with the Saints in 2018, Murphy hit a career best .319 while belting six home runs and driving in 68 runners.
