Milwaukee 10, Sioux Falls 5 – Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen moved to within one win of claiming the American Association Finals with a 10-5 win on Tuesday evening at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Though the Milkmen struck first when CF Brett Vertigan (2-for-4) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first, the Canaries led for most of the early going after moving in front in the bottom of the frame. RF Clint Coulter (3-for-4) singled home CF Logan Landon (2-for-4) and, after 3B Damek Tomscha singled home SS Andrew Ely (2-for-3), he scored when 2B Alay Lago lifted a sac fly.

Milwaukee pulled back to within one when C Christian Correa (2-for-4) hit an RBI single and they took the lead in the fifth when SS Mason Davis (3-for-4) singled to plate 2B Dylan Tice. 1B David Washington scored on an error on the same play. Davis scored later in the inning as RF Zach Nehrir (2-for-4) singled.

Coulter tied the score at 5-5 with a two-run shot for the Canaries in the bottom of the sixth but that proved be the final run of the day for Sioux Falls.

In the seventh, Vertigan pushed the eventual game-winning run across on a squeeze play. The Milkmen added to the lead with another run on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Tice. In the eighth, Nehrir capped off the win with a two-run shot.

The Milwaukee pitching staff combined to rack up 14 strikeouts in the game including eight from start Drew Hutchison. Reliever Myles Smith had a pair in the seventh which was enough for him to earn the win.

Game four is scheduled for Wednesday night in Sioux Falls with the first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m. Central Time.
