Durham, N.C. – One day after winning the franchise’s first American Association championship, the Laredo Lemurs had the contracts of RHP John Brebbia (photo right) and RHP Luis De La Cruz purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

In 2015, Brebbia set a Laredo franchise record with 19 saves, tied for fifth-most in the league, to go along with a 7-2 record and a miniscule 0.98 ERA. He was also named the MVP of the American Association championship series, earning the save in the Lemurs’ wins in Games 2 and 3. Opposing batters hit just .149 against the Sharon, Mass., native, who joined the Lemurs after spending the 2014 season with Sioux Falls of the American Association.

Previously, Brebbia had played for three years in the New York Yankees system after being selected in the 30th round out of Elon University in 2011.

De La Cruz was another member of Laredo’s stellar bullpen in 2015, going 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA, fanning 38 hitters and allowing just 25 hits in 35 innings of work after joining the club in late June. Prior to the Lemurs, De La Cruz, 26, spent parts of nine seasons in the San Diego Padres’ organization, including two years at Double-A. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic had been signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Padres in 2007.
