Laredo 5, Kansas City 4 – Box
The Laredo Lemurs held on for a 5-4 win over the Kansas City T-Bones after a back and forth game toward the end. Laredo jumped out to a 2-0 lead early with a DH Kevin Taylor RBI double and a 4-3 putout scoring Taylor. Fast forward to the fifth inning when RF Denis Phipps’ RBI single put Laredo up 3-0, and after that, the two teams traded runs. Kansas City responded with two runs on RBI singles from 1B Jake Blackwood and LF Adam Bailey. Laredo added another run to pad the lead in the seventh, and went up 5-2 in the eighth off C Phil Pohl’s solo homer. But once again, Kansas City cut the lead with DH Kyle Robinson’s two-run homer. However, the Lemurs were able to hold on for the win.
Lemurs pitcher Henry Garcia got the win after pitching 7.2 innings and striking out six. John Brebbia pitched the final 1.1 innings for Laredo and didn’t allow a run, and he got the save.
Sioux Falls 7, Winnipeg 2 – Box
A complete game from Sioux Falls pitcher Shawn Blackwell helped the Canaries defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-2. Blackwell allowed just two runs in his outing and added five strikeouts. He got some help from his offense too, such as a CF Cody Bishop two-run double and a C Richard Stock two-run single. LF Brian Humphries had a nice night: 2-for-3 with one walk and three runs.
Winnipeg scored its runs off two RBI singles from 1B Casey Haerther and LF Adam Heisler. Heisler led the Goldeyes with three hits. Winnipeg’s bullpen also performed very well. Mike Noteware and Brad Mincey each pitched two scoreless innings, and they allowed zero hits.
Fargo-Moorhead 8, New Jersey 3 – Box
Six late runs from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks allowed them to easily take an 8-3 win over the New Jersey Jackals. With the game tied at two headed to the seventh inning, the RedHawks grabbed the lead with two runs. SS Zach Penprase hit an RBI triple first, and then CF Drew Muren sacrificed Penprase home. The RedHawks added four runs in the eighth. Errors scored two of those runs, and the other two came from a Penprase single. Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Brandon Mann tossed seven innings and struck out seven while allowing just two runs.
New Jersey scored its runs off RF Leandro Castro’s RBI singles in the first and sixth innings, as well as DH Jared Schlehuber’s RBI double in the ninth.
St. Paul 10, Gary SouthShore 4 – Box
Despite falling behind 4-0 early, the St. Paul Saints scored 10 unanswered runs and defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 10-4. Gary SouthShore jumped out to the lead with a 1B Dustin Geiger RBI single in the first, and then three runs in the second, including an DH Adam Taylor RBI single. But their luck ended there, and St. Paul’s offense came to life. It scored five in the third, behind RBI singles from RF David Espinosa and 1B Angelo Songco and RBI doubles from C Vinny DiFazio and DH Ian Gac. With three more runs in the fourth and two more tacked on in the fifth, the Saints coasted for the rest of the game.
On the mound, St. Paul starter Robert Coe pitched seven innings and allowed all four runs. Chris Peacock came in and pitched two perfect innings to shut the door on the RailCats.
Sioux City 6, Grand Prairie 0 – Box
Behind a trio of strong pitchers, the Sioux City Explorers blanked the Grand Prairie AirHogs and won 6-0. Ryan Zimmerman started for Sioux City and picked up the win after seven innings of scoreless work. He allowed just two hits and one walk, and he also struck out eight. John Ely came in and threw a scoreless eighth inning, and Billy Bullock threw a scoreless ninth. Meanwhile at the plate, RF Michael Lang put Sioux City on the board with an RBI single in the third, which was followed by 2B-SS Noah Perio’s two-run single later in the inning. 2B-SS Ryan Court hit a two-run homer later in the game to pad the lead.
RF Ronnie Richardson found the most success at the plate for Grand Prairie as he reached base twice on one walk and one hit.
