KLIPP HURLS A GEM, GIVES WICHITA A HOME WIN

Wichita 2, Laredo 1 Box

Wichita Wingnuts RHP Justin Klipp (pictured) threw seven innings without giving up an earned run in his team’s 2-1 triumph over the Laredo Lemurs. Klipp allowed an unearned run on four hits with a strikeout. Laredo SS Devin Goodwin singled to lead off the top of the fourth inning, and moved into scoring position on a steal and a catcher’s error before scoring on a sacrifice fly from 2B Travis Denker. The 1-0 Lemurs lead held until the bottom of the seventh.

In that frame, Wingnuts DH Michael Hernandez led off with a double. He scored on an RBI single by 3B Colt Loehrs to tie the game. Later in the inning, SS Ryan Khoury doubled home RF David Amberson to put the Wingnuts ahead.

Loehrs was 2-for-3 with an RBI, the only player on either team to record a multi-hit game.

Through three starts, Klipp is now 2-0 with a 1.39 ERA.

Amarillo 9, Trois-Rivieres 5– Box

A five-run fourth inning propelled the Amarillo Sox to an interleague home win over the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Amarillo 2B Josh Miller hit a two-RBI triple with one out, followed by an RBI single by DH Cory Patton. 1B Keith Brachold also had a two-RBI triple before the Aigles could record another out.

CF Jason Martin was 2-for-3 for Amarillo and had a sacrifice fly in the second inning, one in which the Sox scored three runs. For Trois-Rivieres, C Kyle Lafrenz and LF Joey Side both collected a pair of hits. The Aigles scored three runs in the sixth inning when DH Drew Miller led off with a walk and scored later on a bases loaded walk by Side. 3B Eric Grabe followed with his own bases-loaded walk, and 2B Pier-Olivier Dostaler hit a sacrifice fly.

RHP Michael Nannini picked up the win for the Sox, striking out four in five and 1/3 innings.

Fargo-Moorhead 8, Sioux Falls 7Box

1B C.J. Retherford hit a walk-off single for the RedHawks in the ninth inning, scoring SS Anthony Kaskadden. The RedHawks held a 7-4 lead after four innings, thanks to Kaskadden (RBI single in the second) and DH Zach Penprase, who had a two-RBI single in the same inning. C Petey Paramore was 2-for-4 for Fargo-Moorhead with an RBI, but the night belonged to Retherford. He was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Sioux Falls C Kevin Dultz was 3-for-4, and 3B Carlos Mendez and 2B Shelby Ford both had a pair of hits. Ford’s four RBIs led the way for Sioux Falls, as he hit a bases-clearing double in the third and a solo home run in the fifth.

RHP Justin Erasmus earned the win for Fargo-Moorhead with one and 2/3 innings of shutout relief with a strikeout.
