JOPLIN WALKS OFF AGAINST GRAND PRAIRIE

 Joplin 7, Grand Prairie 6 Box

Blasters C Carlos Ramirez (pictured) hit a two-run walk-off homer to lead Joplin to a 7-6 victory. The AirHogs took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when C  Zane Chavez hit an RBI-single and DH Willie Cabrera knocked a RBI-double.  But the lead did not last long as Blasters 2B Omar Luna hit an RBI-groundout and CF Oscar Mesa hit an RBI-single to tie the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the first.

But Grand Prairie regained the lead at 4-2 when Cabrera returned in the third inning to hit a two-run home run. The lead grew to 5-2 in the fifth inning when LF Chris Elder hit an RBI-groundout.  AirHogs CF Hyde Jennings then added an RBI-double in the eighth inning to boost the advantage to 6-2.

Joplin came charging back in the eighth – RF Jesus Solorzano hit an RBI-double and SS Maikol Gonzalez knocked a two-RBI double to make it 6-5 AirHogs. And Ramirez finished it off in the ninth with his home run.

 

Wichita 10, Lincoln 4 – Box

Wichita used an eight-run second inning to run past the Saltdogs 10-4 Thursday night. In that huge second inning, four different Wingnut batters registered at least one RBI – 2B Luis Hernandez, CF Jayce Ray, 1B Matt Padgett and 3B TJ Mittelstaedt.

Saltdogs Jon Gaston hit a two-RBI double in the third to make it 8-2 in Lincoln’s favor.  The Winguts had bases loaded with no outs in the seventh, but only managed one run to make it 9-2.  Saltdogs RF Brian Joynt smoked a RBI-single in the eighth to make it 9-3, but that was all for Lincoln in the game.

Padgett and Mittelstaedt led the Wingnuts with two hits each. The Saltdogs had six hits and no errors in the matchup.

 

 

Winnipeg 3, Sioux City 2Box

Despite a complete game by Explorer RHP Jeff Marquez, the Winnipeg Goldeyes were able to outlast Sioux City 3-2 Thursday night. There was no scoring through five innings of play. But the Goldeyes finally brought a run home in the top of the sixth thanks to a RBI-single by RF Brady Wilson. Winnipeg followed that up by adding two more RBI-singles by 2B Brad Boyer and 1B Casey Haerther in the same inning.

The Explorers brought across one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-1 after RBI-single by 1B Rene Tosoni, but couldn’t do much more despite having runners on second and third with 2 outs.  Sioux City then had bases loaded in the ninth inning, but the rally fell short. Winnipeg LHP Nick Hernandez went seven innings, while giving up only five hits and one earned run.

 

 Amarillo 11, Trois-Rivieres 6 Box

Amarillo took down the Aigles 11-6 Thursday night. Thunderheads went up 3-0 in the first inning when SS Juan Martinez slapped a two-RBI double and 1B Rene Leveret had an RBI-single. The score increased to 4-0 when CF Jason Martin hit an RBI-single in the third inning.

Trois-Rivieres got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning by exploding for five runs. In the inning, 3B Eric Grabe had a two RBI-double and SS Pedro Lopez had a two-RBI single. LF Craig Hertler had a RBI-walk.  However, the Thunderheads immediately tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom half thanks to a RBI-single by 2B Geraldo Valentin.

Amarillo regained the lead at 6-5 after Martin hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and increased its lead to 10-5 in the seventh.

 

St. Paul, Sioux Falls

The game between St. Paul and Sioux Falls was unable to be started due to weather. The game will be made up as part of a 7-inning doubleheader on Friday June 12 at 5:30 p.m. CST at Sioux Falls stadium.
