Sioux City Explorers outfielder D’Shawn Knowles and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks starter Tyler Jandron won the American Association’s Carbliss batter and pitcher of the week awards for the week ending 8/3, the league announced Monday.
Knowles was one of the lead run-producers of the week, going 10-for-22 (.455) at the plate with a double, a triple and two home runs and seven runs driven in. He also walked three times and scored seven runs while striking out just twice.
In what was a tough series for the league-leading Explorers, Knowles carried them to their lone win in Lincoln over the weekend with a two-homer performance and 5 runs driven in on Friday night in a game the Explorers won 7-2.
This is year two for Knowles in Sioux City after he played 23 games a year ago to a .261 batting average and a .734 OPS. He previously spent six seasons in the Los Angeles Angels organization.
On the pitching side, Jandron went the distance on Sunday afternoon in Kane County, shutting out the Cougars with five strikeouts in what was a 3-0 win for Fargo-Moorhead.
The left-hander was able to work through trouble with the Cougars racking up 10 hits but he did not walk a batter and kept his pitch count low enough to go the distance.
Jandron has been an innings-eater this season, pitching at least five innings in all but two of his 13 starts. His ERA is down to 3.64 with a 6-3 record across 79 innings pitched.
This is Jandron’s second go-around in the American Association after he spent 2023 with Winnipeg to a 5.67 ERA in a hybrid starter-reliever role. He has also played in the frontier league and spent one season in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
Carbliss is the founding partner of the American Association.
