CLEVELAND PURCHASES CONTRACT OF RIGHTY MASEK

Durham, N.C. — The contract of Laredo Lemurs RHP Trey Masek has been purchased by the Cleveland Indians organization, the American Association announced on Friday. Masek spent the 2016 season with the Texas AirHogs before being traded to Laredo on September 29.
With Texas, Masek was superb out of the bullpen, going 1-0 with a 2.86 ERA, fanning 16 hitters in 22.0 innings of work. Masek joined the club in July 2016, and did not allow a run in his first 11 outings. Furthermore, the 20 appearances in 2016 were a career high for the 25-year-old.
Masek joined the AirHogs after previously spending three seasons in the Chicago Cubs’ organization. The Giddings, Texas, native was chosen in the fifth round of the 2013 draft out of Texas Tech University.
