Hoyt

Independent Baseball Chatter – by Bob Wirz

Right-hander James Hoyt (Wichita ’12) is the latest American Association grad to be invited to a major league spring training camp.  Houston has given the 29-year-old his second consecutive invitation, and he should be very well equipped after posting a perfect earned run average for nine appearances one year ago (five hits and 14 strikeouts in 9.2 innings) followed by a full season of Triple-A, where he was 0-1 with nine saves and 66 strikeouts in only 49 innings for Fresno.  Hoyt appeared in 47 games.

Previously the chief spokesman for Commissioners Bowie Kuhn and Peter Ueberroth, Bob Wirz has been writing extensively about Independent Baseball since 2003.  He is a frequent contributor to this site as well as writing his own blog, www.IndyBaseballChatter.com.
