DURHAM, NC- Building upon winning the American Association Pitcher of the Player of the Week for the week ending July 12, Sioux Falls Canaries OF Brian Humphries, has been named the American Association Rawlings Player of the Month for July.
He had an incredible 16 multi-hit games on the month, collecting eight home runs in the span. In the week for which he was honored, the El Cajon, Calif. resident went 17-for-32 in helping the Canaries pick up four wins. He notched three doubles, a pair of home runs and 11 RBI.
Humphries began his week with a 4-for-5 game on July 6 against the Lincoln Saltdogs. In Sioux Falls’ 12-11 win, he collected a double, three RBI and two runs scored. A day later, the former Pepperdine University player was 2-for-4 against the Saltdogs, with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a 9-2 win. Humphries added another multi-hit game to his ledger on July 8 with another 2-for-4 performance. One of the hits was a solo home run, accounting for the lone run of a 9-1 loss. After an 0-for-4 game July 9, Humphries turned in a monster Friday game at the Gary SouthShore RailCats. He logged a 5-for-6 performance with an RBI as the Canaries won the series opener 7-6. A day later, Humphries was 1-for-4 in a 4-1 loss to the RailCats and American Association Pitcher of the Week Charle Rosario. Humphries bounced back on July 12, turning in a 3-for-5 game with a pair of doubles, three RBI and a run scored in an 8-1 win.
Later in the month, Humphries had two multi-homer games. He had two blasts in a 9-8 loss to the Amarillo Thunderheads on July 24 and repeated the feat on July 31 in a 6-3 win over the Kansas City T-Bones.
He is now hitting .338 on the season with 15 doubles, a triple, 11 home runs and 40 RBI.
Humphries now carries a .321 average on the season with 12 doubles, a triple and five home runs. He has driven in 27 for the Canaries. This is Humphries’ first season in Sioux Falls after a four-year stint in the Colorado Rockies system. He was a Texas League All-Star in 2014 with Class AA Tulsa.
