HERRON’S ONE-HITTER LEADS REDHAWKS TO WIN

Fargo-Moorhead 6, Sioux City 0 — Box Score

Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Tyler Herron tossed a complete-game one hitter as the RedHawks shutout the Sioux City Explorers 6-0.

Herron is now 2-0 in three appearances this season and is yet to allow a run in 2016. He faced just one batter more than the minimum on Wednesday night as he did not allow a walk in the game. He needed just 97 pitches (68 strikes) to finish off the Explorers and he struck out nine batters. SS Nate Samson had the Explorers’ lone hit in the top of the second inning.

The RedHawks bats backed Herron up with six runs, all coming in the fifth through seventh innings. Six different RedHawks registered hits in the game and five of them had two hits including 2B Ryan Pineda who went 2-for-5 with two RBI. CF Kes Carter, who also had two hits in the game, hit his second home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning.

 

St. Paul 4, Joplin 1 – 11 Innings — Box Score

After completing Tuesday night’s suspended game earlier in the afternoon, the night cap between the St. Paul Saints and the Joplin Blasters was only scheduled for seven innings. But the Saints and the Blasters ended up needing 11 innings to decide a winner. The Saints scored three times in the top of the 11th to top the Blasters 4-1.

The score was tied at 1 after SS Cory Morales scored in the second and Saints’ LF Willie Argo tripled home 3B Nate Hanson in the fourth. In the top of the 11th, Argo scored on an error and then C Aaron Gretz hit a double that scored two runs and put the Saints ahead 4-1.

In the bottom of the frame, 2B Mitch Glasser singled but the other three batters flew out to end the game.

 

Lincoln 5, Texas 4 — Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a bases-loaded walk and made that stood up for 5-4 win against the Texas AirHogs.

The Saltdogs took an early 4-0 lead after a big second inning that saw consecutive RBI base hits from LF Brandon Jacobs, 2B Pat Kelly and CF Chase Harris. Texas cut that lead in half with two unearned runs in the next inning – one on an error and the other on a LF Burt Reynolds RBI double. The AirHogs tied the score in the fifth after a sac fly from SS Juan Sanchez and a RBI double from 3B Austin Gallagher.

For Lincoln, both Harris and Jacobs had a team-high two hits and for the AirHogs, 1B Devon Rodriguez and 2B Brian Bistagne also had a pair of hits.

 

Kansas City 4, Gary SouthShore 3 — Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones dug themselves out of an early 3-0 hole and came back to claim a 4-3 win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-3.

The RailCats built an early lead in the first inning with a bases-load walk and a sac fly from DH Alex Crosby. In the second, 2B Elbert Devarie, who singled to lead off the inning, scored on an error to give the RailCats a 3-0 lead. Devarie was the only batter for either team to record more than one hit in the game.

The T-Bones cut into the lead in the fourth inning as DH Anthony Gallas hit a two-run home run, his fifth roundtripper of the season. Kansas City took the lead for good in the sixth as 1B Jake Blackwood singled home Gallas and later scored on a single from C Steve Swingle.

 

Winnipeg 3, Sioux Falls 2 — Box Score

Despite being outhit 10-3, the Winnipeg Goldeyes held off the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-2.

The Goldeyes scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and that proved to be enough. SS Maikol Gonzalez led off the inning with a single for the Goldeyes’ second hit of the night and he scored when LF Josh Romanski doubled in the next at-bat. Romanski and 1B Jacob Rogers both scored on errors later in the inning to give Winnipeg a 3-1 lead.

2B Frank Martinez hit a solo home run in the third for the Canaries and RF Ozney Guillen singled home SS Jerome Pena in the seventh but those were the only runs on the night for Sioux Falls. C Nolan Johnson, 3B Blake Schmit and CF Ethan Chapman each had two hits in the game.

 

Laredo 7, Wichita 1 — Box Score

After four scoreless innings the Laredo Lemurs pulled away to finish off the Wichita Wingnuts 7-1.

Laredo’s CF Drew Martinez had a game-high three hits in his five at-bats and he scored once. Both batters in front of Martinez – LF Ty Morrison an 2B Alvaro Rondon – each had one RBI. 3B Travis Denker belted out his fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning, also scoring Martinez on the play. SS J.D. Pulfer added two hits and an RBI for the Lemurs.

For the Wingnuts, C Brent Dean had a team-high two hits and Wichita’s only RBI in the game. Laredo Starter Matt Sergey earned the win for tossing six scoreless innings while giving up four hits and striking out nine batters.
