Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks infielder Michael Hallquist and Winnipeg Goldeyes starter James Bradwell won the American Association’s Carbliss batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 8/10, the league announced Monday.
The hottest team in the league is in Fargo, North Dakota and Hallquist was a big reason why they stayed hot this week.
The infielder went 9-for-20 (.450) at the plate including two doubles, two triples and two home runs. He drove in five runs, walked five times and scored seven runs himself, not to mention he also stole four bases.
He capped his week off with a big swing on Sunday, a two-run homer to help the RedHawks win 4-2 and win a hard-fought series against the league-best Sioux City Explorers.
This is year two for Hallquist in Fargo after he played 34 games a year ago, hitting .277 with 11 runs batted in. This year in 42 games he’s hitting .270 with three homers and 14 runs batted in.
On the pitching side, Bradwell was the clear choice, pitching nine no-hit innings on the road against the Sioux Falls Canaries on Thursday night.
He did not get the win however thanks to the game going to extra-innings and the Canaries walking it off with a wild win in the 11th, but it was a special performance from Bradwell including four strikeouts.
The right-hander has been steadily improving throughout the season, pitching seven innings of one-run ball in his previous two starts before this one.
The native Canadian is in his first season of American Association play after bouncing around multiple Canadian professional teams including the Capitales de Québec and Aigles de Trois-Rivières of the Frontier League.
Carbliss is the founding partner of the American Association.
