Grand Prairie 11, Joplin 1 – Box
Grand Prairie used 15 hits to dominate Joplin 11-1 Thursday night. The AirHogs went up 4-0 in the first inning after an RBI-singles by SS Robi Estrada and LF Willie Cabrera, and a two-RBI double by DH Michael Pair. In the third inning, the lead ballooned to 8-0 after Estrada hit a three-RBI double and 2B Josh Eatherly hit an RBI-single. AirHog C Zane Chavez pushed the lead to 10-0 in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double.
Joplin finally scored in the eighth inning thanks to a DH Jake Taylor solo home run. Grand Prairie starting pitcher Blake Oliver went six innings, gave up two hits, no earned runs and struck-out two batters. Joplin had five hits in the game and one error
Amarillo 11, Sioux Falls 7 – Box
With the help of four hits from 1B David Bergin and SS Jerome Pena, Sioux Falls defeated Amarillo 11-7 Thursday night. Sioux Falls was up 1-0 after the first inning thanks to an RBI-single by LF Brian Humphries. In the second Canarie 2B Michael Broad hit an RBI-groundout to make it 2-0. And with a Pena home run and DH Jason Repko RBI-single, the score pushed to 4-0 Canaries in the third inning. Sioux Falls continued the onslaught in the fourth – three more runs by Bergin and Repko made it 7-0 Canaries.
Amarillo got five runs in the seventh inning when CF Dexter Kjerstad hit an RBI-triple, 2B Tyler Urps hit a sacrifice fly and SS Juan Martinez hit a three-RBI double. But Sioux Falls lead grew to 11-5 after one insurance run in the eighth and two more in the top of the ninth.
Kansas City 4, Winnipeg 2 – Box
The T-Bones squeaked past the Goldeyes 4-2 in a close match-up Thursday night. In the first, T-Bones 1B Jake Blackwood hit a sacrifice fly to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. In the third, the T-Bones increased its lead to 4-0 – 3B Nate Tenbrink had an RBI-double, LF Adam Bailey had an RBI-groundout, and SS Vladimir Frias had an RBI-single. In the sixth Winnipeg LF Adam Heisler hit a solo home run and in the seventh, C Luis Alen hit an RBI-single, to cut the T-Bones’ lead to 4-2, but that was the end for Winnipeg’s offense.
Winnipeg had eight hits in the game while Kansas City had 13. Kansas City starting pitcher Kris Regas went six innings, gave up four hits, one earned run and struck-out three batters.
St. Paul 7, Lincoln 1 – Box
Saints starting pitcher Robert Coe pitched a complete game and beat the SaltDogs in a 7-1 victory Thursday night. St. Paul went up 1-0 in the first thanks to an RBI-single by DH Ian Gac. Saints CF Alonzo Harris made it 3-0 in the second inning with a two-RBI single. In the fifth inning, St. Paul added four more runs to make it a 7-0 lead. In the inning, RF Mike Kvasnicka had a sacrifice fly, and RBI singles by SS Anthony Phillips, Harris and C Vince DiFazio.
Coe gave up one earned run, just two hits and struck-out five batters. The Saltdogs had two hits while St. Paul had 13. Five different Saints batters had at least two hits in the match-up.
Sioux City 9, Gary SouthShore 4 (10 innings) – Box
Sioux City needed extra innings to take down the RailCats 9-4 Thursday night. Gary SouthShore went up 3-0 in the first inning and all the runs were RBI-walks from C Michael Vaughn, LF Adam Taylor and 3B Jose Sermo. In the third inning, Sioux City RF Michael Lang hit an RBI-double and 1B Rene Tosoni hit an RBI-single to cut the RailCats lead to 3-2. Explorer Noah Perio tied it at 3-3 in the seventh inning with an RBI-single and Ryan Court followed that up with another RBI-single to give Sioux City a 4-3 advantage, which eventually turned out to be the game-tying and go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the ninth, Taylor hit an RBI-single to tie the score at 4-4. But Sioux City with five runs of its own in the 10th inning to take a 9-4 lead.
Sioux City starting pitcher Ryan Zimmerman went 6.2 innings, gave up five hits, three runs, and struck-out five batters.
Fargo-Moorhead 18, Rockland 6 – Box
Fargo-Moorhead used a huge first inning to take down Rockland 18-6 Thursday night. In that first inning, the Redhawks’ seven runs were brought in by five different players – LF Chad Mozingo, DH Joe Bonfe, C Joe Staley, 3B Taylor Oldham, 1B Tyler Peterson and CF Drew Muren. All seven runs came on just four hits. But Rockland cut the lead to 7-5 in the bottom half thanks to a pair of RBI-singles by C Marcus Nidiffer and DH Ryan Fisher and a three-run homer by 1B Charlie Law. RedHawk 2B Ryan Pineda made it 8-5 in the second with an RBI-single.
Fargo-Moorhead added four runs in the third to make it 12-5. In the fourth and fifth innings, they scored a combined six runs to make it 18-5 and out of reach for the Boulders.
Wichita 9, Laredo 1 – Box
The Winguts held Laredo to just one run early in the game, en route to a dominating 9-1 victory Thursday night. Laredo went up 1-0 in the first with a RBI-single by 3B Juan Silverio. Wichita took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after a two-RBI double by C Jon Nester. Wichita LF Harrison Kain scored on an error in the fifth inning to make it 3-1 Wingnuts.
In the seventh inning, Wichita scored four runs to increase its lead to 7-1. In the frame, 2B Starlin Rodriguez and SS Luis Hernandez had RBI-singles and Nester had a two-RBI single. Wichita brought home two more runs in the top of the eighth to make it 9-1.
